The Department of English and Creative Writing in the College of Arts and Sciences at Widener University invites applications for the position of tenure-track assistant professor specializing in twentieth and twenty-first century British literature, with demonstrated expertise in Black literature and British or transatlantic modernism. Candidates with experience in and commitment to inclusive pedagogy are especially encouraged to apply, as are candidates who would be able to contribute to Widener’s interdisciplinary programs, including African and African American Studies and Gender, Women & Sexuality Studies.

Applicants should be committed to excellence in teaching and advising, evince the potential for a strong record of publishing, provide evidence of mentoring students, and be dedicated to working collaboratively in a department and university that values diversity.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

  • Teaching introductory and upper-level courses in area of expertise
  • Teaching introductory courses in first-year writing
  • Publishing of scholarship
  • Engaging in academic citizenship at all level of the university
  • Advising majors and minors

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required):

  • PhD in English or Comparative Literature (ABD candidates may be considered if the degree will be completed by August 2023).
  • Specialization in twentieth and twenty-first century British literature, with demonstrated expertise in Black literature and British or transatlantic modernism.
  • Experience in and demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education at all levels.
