Job Description:
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral researcher position funded by a NSF grant in the Li lab (https://www.dlilab.com) in the Department of Biological Sciences and the Center of Computation & Technology at LSU. Our research group focuses on understanding the effects of global environmental change on biodiversity, phenology, and species interactions. This project will focus on using advanced statistical models to understand the current pattern and underlying mechanisms of species invasions of birds, plants, and beetles using the organismal data collected by national ecological observatory network (NEON). The postdoc will collate a database of species invasions using NEON data (e.g., traits, phylogenies, environmental conditions, etc.), develop and apply advanced phylogenetic generalized linear mixed models (PGLMM) explaining and forecasting species invasions across spatial scales and taxonomic groups, and lead manuscripts. This project involves computational work and no field work. The preferred start date is September 2023 but can be slightly flexible. This position is fully funded for up to 24-months pending satisfactory performance. Our research group is committed to anti-racism and is diverse (https://www.dlilab.com/value/). Duties Include:
  • 90% Compile database of species invasion, develop and apply advanced statistic models, conduct research, disseminate research results by attending conferences, publish research results in peer-review journals, develop and write grant proposals.
  • 10% Mentor undergraduate and graduate students working on similar projects.
  • This project involves computational work and no field work.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • PhD in ecology, biology, environmental data science, statistics, or other relevant discipline.
  • Specific Experience: The ideal applicant will have strong quantitative skills (e.g., R, statistics such as hierarchical models, GIS), a strong background in ecology and environmental science, creativity, a strong publication record, and an
  • excellent history in seeing projects through from start to finish. As this is a computational project, good oral and written communication skills are highly valued.
