Postdoctoral Scholar

The Ohio State University

Job Description

The Kudryashov lab at The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry within the College of Arts and Sciences invites candidates for two (2) openings for NIH-funded Postdoctoral Scholar positions.

We are looking for skilled and highly motivated postdoctoral scholars with expertise in biochemistry, cell biology, structural biology, biophysics or related areas to conduct cutting-edge research on several projects focused on the role of actin binding proteins (e.g., plastins) and actin-specific bacterial toxins in the pathogenesis of human hereditary and infectious diseases, and cancer. Two examples of the lab’s priority projects are the recent discoveries of actin processive polymerization at the pointed end by Vibrio toxins (Sci. Adv., 2022) and the allosteric regulation of actin bundling proteins plastins (NSMB, 2022). Both, plastin and toxin projects relate to the mechanotransduction/mechanosensing properties of the actin cytoskeleton. Therefore, candidates with interests in mechanobiology are particularly welcomed.

The primary responsibilities of the postdoctoral scholars will be: taking the lead role in her/his research project(s), designing and conducting experiments, analyzing data, writing/publishing manuscripts as the lead author, presenting their results at the local and national/international meetings, and supervising undergraduate and graduate researchers in the lab. Efforts to secure funding essential for successful career development will be encouraged and supported. The position will remain open until filled. Guidance by the PI will be provided to assist with successful careers in academia or industry, depending on the priorities of the candidates.

Qualifications:

A Doctoral degree (MD, PhD, or MD/PhD) in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Structural biology, Biophysics or related disciplines is required by the time of the appointment.

Desired:

Experience in the areas of the actin cytoskeleton, mechanobiology, protein characterization, advanced cell biology and molecular cloning techniques along with excellent writing and verbal communication skills are desirable.

To apply, please send: 1) a letter explaining your qualifications and interest in this position, 2) a CV or Biosketch, and 3) names and addresses of three or more professional referees willing to provide letters of recommendation on your behalf to: kudryashov.1@osu.edu.

Salary starts at $48,000 commensurate with expertise and experience.
