The Director of Institutional Research & Analysis partners with college leaders at all levels of the institution and leads a team of business intelligence and institutional analysis professionals to deliver the most informative and relevant data to inform institutional strategy and direction. The Director directs the planning, implementation and distribution of business intelligence, standard and ad hoc reporting, interactive modeling, dashboarding and advanced analytical research of the highest integrity. Provides the relevant data in a timely manner to decision makers at all levels of the institution, reports with a timetable, ad hoc reports, and external environmental scans or literature reviews. Is a key contributor to data standards and governance for the College and provides support for assessment and evaluation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and DUTIES

  • Performs continuous internal and external environmental scanning for the purposes of supporting institutional planning.
  • Conducts advanced, focused research on the various operations and activities of the College as it pursues its institutional mission, goals and objectives, reporting periodically on the institution's progress, impact and implications through various mediums such as research briefs, presentations, special reports, ad hoc inquiry responses and online web pages and similar services.
  • Serves as the College's chief reporting official for IPEDS, THECB/CBM reports and SACS institutional profiles and provides data and analytical support for all activities related to planning, evaluation, assessment, agency reporting and accreditation.
  • Directs the planning, implementation and access distribution of business intelligence, standard and ad hoc reporting, interactive modeling, dashboarding and advanced analytical research of the highest integrity.
  • Provides an Online Fact Book which is the annual report on the Institutional Performance indicators and supports other institutional efforts to gather, store and report institutional data for purposes of the creation of data dashboards, fact sheets, agency reports and other data-driven processes.
  • Generates enrollment reports and forecasting.
  • Supports all College decision-making from long-range strategic planning to daily tactical / operational decisions with appropriate, actionable information tailored to the audience.
  • Responsible for maintaining accountability and sound fiscal management.
  • Recommends for hire, supervises, trains, and evaluates the Institutional Research & Analysis staff

COMPETENCIES
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience in institutional research and statistical analysis, data collection, reporting methods and enterprise-wide decision support.
  • Experience in enrollment statistics and projections.
  • Experience in gathering appropriate institutional data to facilitate the creation and production of the annual Fact Book and Common Data Set.
  • Excellent oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills
  • Possesses a clear vision of goals, strategic planning and tactical decision-making.
  • Familiar with agency reports, i.e., IPEDS and other federal, state and local agencies required reports.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects that require demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively and to determine proper course of action.
  • Team player with the ability to collaborate with all college departments, functions, and other support services.
  • Ability to adapt to constant change and periods of fast-paced, high-intensity work situations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving the vision and mission of TJC.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific, technical and professional journals, financial reports, technical procedures, governmental regulations and legal documents.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to common inquiries from executive management, faculty, staff, students, public groups, regulatory agencies, and/or Board of Trustees.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education/Experience

  • Master's Degree in Analytical Research or related field required.
  • At least five (5) years of leadership experience in related field and/or department.

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Doctorate Degree preferred.
  • Higher education experience is preferred, but not required.

  • Decisions made independently by this position: Decisions regarding the day-to-day activities of data services.

WORK SCHEDULE
Special circumstances in the work schedule (e.g., travel, shift work, weekend or holiday work, on-call, other): Typical Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm work schedule, with an expectation for additional work hours when necessary.
