The University of Surrey is one of the UK’s leading public research universities. Join 2,500 staff and 17,000 students in an inspiring, innovative and diverse environment to make a positive impact through free-thinking and hard work.

Our School of Veterinary Medicine is part of our Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, which operates under a One Health vision. Its state-of-the-art facilities and equipment provide the latest technologies for interdisciplinary research and teaching in human and animal health. The School aims to inspire and educate veterinary professionals who will advance veterinary medicine to meet the needs of a changing world. We embrace the traditional values of professionalism, scientific curiosity and clinical excellence, while developing graduates with broad horizons. Our research aims to advance knowledge in all aspects of veterinary medicine and education.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our enthusiastic, dedicated, and friendly team of international pathologists and residents, based in our unique £11m purpose-built, state-of-the-art Veterinary Pathology Centre. You will have excellent communication skills and will work well in a team, functioning in the areas of diagnostic service, student teaching, and resident training.

Diagnostic responsibilities involve participation in the necropsy and biopsy services in the Veterinary Pathology Centre. Submissions comprise a varied species range that includes companion animals (dogs, cats, horses), ruminants, pigs, poultry, camelids, wildlife, and zoo and exotic species.

Student teaching responsibilities include active participation in teaching anatomic pathology in the veterinary medical curriculum, which is committed to training practice-ready veterinarians. Specific teaching duties will focus on didactic teaching of anatomic pathology, predominantly to 2nd-year students, as well as teaching final-year students who will work with the team on diagnostic duty during their clinical rotation in pathology.

Resident training responsibilities include supervision of residents on necropsy duty, biopsy duty, and case sign-out, as well as participation in structured training rounds and in the residents’ continued professional development.

To be considered, you will possess a veterinary degree registrable with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), and be board-certified in veterinary anatomic pathology (ACVP, ECVP, RCPath). Continued Professional Development is encouraged, and you will be supported with gaining the Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching/Higher Education.

The current team of pathologists and residents is engaged in the national and international pathology community through volunteer committee service and conference presentations. Opportunities for creative scholarly activity can be tailored to the successful candidate’s interests and may include collaborative or independent research. Many opportunities for collaborative research exist in various subspecialty areas and in biomedical sciences, courtesy of strong links with researchers across the University of Surrey, as well as through our many collaborative partnerships with researchers in specialty clinics, zoological societies, scientific institutes, and government agencies.

In return, we offer a generous pension, relocation assistance, access to world-class leisure facilities on campus, a range of travel schemes and supportive family friendly benefits including an excellent on-site nursery.

The University of Surrey is committed to providing an inclusive environment that offers equal opportunities for all. We value everyone in our community and are seeking to increase the diversity. Therefore, we particularly encourage applications from under-represented groups, such as people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups and people with disabilities.
