We seek to appoint an Associate Professor in the Film and TV portfolio. The successful candidate will have energy and passion for the student experience and a strong commitment to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The postholder will play an important role in the delivery and development of research training programmes or novel taught programmes integrating research or enterprise in this area. In particular, we are looking for applicants and a forward-looking engagement, experience, understanding and knowledge of emerging film and tv technologies and related new workflows and methodologies, such as those associated with interactive, immersive, XR technologies, 360-degree film-making or Virtual Production techniques.

In addition to the formation of the new School of Stage and Screen, the Institute for the Liberal Arts and Social Sciences has been established with six new research centres associated with core disciplines of creative arts, design, humanities, and social sciences in the faculty to grow and strengthen interdisciplinary research and knowledge exchange. The Institute includes a Practice Hub for skills development and learning for practice as research.

The Institute aims to enrich the research environment of FLAS by providing a framework to support interdisciplinary research collaboration across the four schools in the faculty: School of Design; School of Humanities and Social Sciences; School of Law and Criminology, and the newly formed School of Stage and Screen.

To help us realise this vision, we are seeking applicants who can provide strategic leadership with a proven track record of publication and/or practice at a high level; of leading, obtaining and managing the acquisition of research or enterprise funding and of working in or with industry. The post holder will be expected to provide leadership and mentorship in research or enterprise and to set standards of excellence across the School. In addition, we are looking for someone to bring new ideas and contributions to the development of novel taught programmes integrating research, enterprise and innovation or to lead the development and delivery of new courses. The ideal candidate will be able to work well across multidisciplinary teams, and will seek out interdisciplinary opportunities to promote, cultivate and engage with both internal and external networks and industry partnerships.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Film or TV discipline related areas or Equivalent Professional experience with a portfolio of work of national and/or international significance, excellence and quality. Appropriate professional qualification or member of Film industry and Fellow of HEA are also desirable.
