Executive Director

International Enneagram Association

Job Description

The International Enneagram Association (IEA) has an exciting opening for a full-time Executive Director. After more than 27 years as an organization led by a volunteer working Board, we are ready to grow our organization and expand our impact by hiring a strategic thinking, highly motivated and collaborative leader.

What is the IEA?

The International Enneagram Association (IEA) is a nonprofit international membership organization dedicated to learning about and connecting with others through the Enneagram. The Enneagram is a psycho-spiritual tool, sometimes called a wisdom map. It identifies nine different patterns individuals use to interpret the world and the core motivations and avoidances of each. It is useful for deep personal transformation and growth work and in managing emotions and responses in daily life.

The Enneagram is taught and understood through many different lineages and traditions. It is used by individuals, couples, groups and organizations seeking to understand themselves and each other better. It is applied in a wide variety of settings, including secular psychology, spiritual practice and direction, business coaching and consulting, recovery and healing work, somatic applications and more. The IEA is the “big tent” organization that brings these diverse traditions and applications together, with a common commitment to deepening understanding of the Enneagram and using it ethically and with integrity.

Founded in 1994, the IEA is a global community that carries out its mission in several main ways:

  • Membership - The IEA is a membership association with approximately 1300 members worldwide. Our membership includes Professional members who teach or use the Enneagram in a variety of professional settings. It also includes Participating members who are enthusiastic about learning about the Enneagram and connecting with others who share their interests. All IEA Members commit to the IEA ethical guidelines.
  • Accreditation - One of the IEA’s most important programs is its Accreditation Program for Professionals, Training Programs and Schools. IEA Accredited Professionals must have attained a high standard of qualified Enneagram training and professional experience over a period of at least three years. Accredited Training Programs and Schools must provide either a comprehensive Enneagram education or in-depth, specialized training in a particular application. Accredited Professionals, Training Programs and Schools must adhere to the IEA’s Code of Ethics.
  • Affiliates and Chapters - The IEA has 20 Chapters and Affiliates throughout the US and the world. These are self-governing not-for-profit organizations committed to creating Enneagram community and furthering the IEA’s mission in their state, country, or region. IEA Chapters and Affiliates sponsor regional workshops, conferences, and other events. Leaders gather periodically in person or through virtual platforms to share information and learn from each other.
  • Events – The global IEA holds a large multi-day conference every other year. Traditionally this event was held in person, though in 2021 it was held entirely online. Our 2023 Global Conference, Unite & Ignite, will be a hybrid conference held July 20-23 with the in-person event in San Francisco. The IEA also sponsors occasional workshops and a monthly webinar called IEA LIVE that is presented by Affiliates and Chapters or Professional Members. The IEA also promotes regional conferences organized by its Affiliates and Chapters in alternate years.

What is the IEA Executive Director Position?

With 2021 revenues of $300,000, the IEA is seeking its first Executive Director as it moves from a volunteer working board model to a governing Board model. This Executive Director must have the vision to perceive opportunities for growth and for improving the efficiency, quality and cost of IEA services. The Executive Director must bring the IEA into the digital age, developing appropriate technology tools, strong social media and online community, and program offerings to attract new and retain existing members and generate additional revenues.
