The postdoc will work with Dr. Michelle Hummel (https://mhummel1.wixsite.com/website).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • The postdoc will assist with project activities such as: deploying and validating environmental sensors; applying geospatial, statistical, and machine learning methods to analyze and synthesize large environmental datasets; developing process-based models to predict coastal hazards; creating data products for dissemination to diverse project stakeholders; and publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals.
  • The postdoc will have the opportunity to work with an interdisciplinary team of engineers, architects, and social scientists and to engage with community-based organizations in the Coastal Bend Region of Texas.

Required Qualifications
  • Candidates must have earned a doctoral degree in civil/environmental engineering or a related field.
  • Desired qualifications include (i) a strong theoretical background in fluid mechanics and coastal processes, (ii) experience applying machine learning methods to environmental datasets, (iii) experience running numerical and/or machine learning models on high performance computing (HPC) systems, (iv) experience conducting field observations, (v) strong written and oral communication skills and a demonstrated publication record, and (vi) experience working in interdisciplinary teams.
