Full Job Description

Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Senior Vice President for Academic and Student Services. The Senior Vice President is the chief academic officer of the College.

The Senior Vice President for Academic and Student Services plans, oversees, organizes, and directs the activities of all instructional (career and technical education, college transfer, career and college ready, and corporate and continuing education) programs. In addition to the academic programs, the Senior Vice President is also responsible for academic support functions including Military Programs, Student Services, Library Services and Student Learning Center, and Student Government Association to ensure that assigned functions appropriately fulfill applicable Federal, State, and College academic goals and objectives; to select, supervise, train, and evaluate instructional and support services personnel and assigned staff; and provide comprehensive and responsible staff assistance to the College President and Board of Trustees. Successful candidates will demonstrate a successful track record utilizing collaborative leadership capabilities that lead to unified efforts critical to student and organizational success.


Nestled in the heart of the Cape Fear Region on 209-acres, with locations throughout Cumberland County, and outreach programs across the nation, Fayetteville Technical Community College represents the third largest of the 58 community colleges within the North Carolina Community College System, annually serving nearly 40,000 curriculum and corporate and continuing education students. FTCC’s Corporate and Continuing Education program offers a wide array of special-interest courses and provides businesses with individually tailored and highly specialized training and workshop opportunities. Duties


Essential Duties—Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Develop, plan, implement, and administer academic and administrative goals and objectives as well as policies and procedures necessary to successfully carryout assigned duties and functions to College departments, programs, and services; approve new or modify existing systems, policies, and procedures to continuously improve and meet institutional goals and objectives.
  • Oversee and monitor the activities and operations of all curriculum related programs; ensure that operations meet the institutional and programmatic goals and objectives of the College and the needs of the diverse student population served to achieve student success.
  • Oversee the College’s accreditation and licensure processes for required programs and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
  • Participate as a member of the College management team; prepare work programs, budget requests, and periodic reports; research and prepare detailed reports on a variety of College management topics; coordinate fundraising activities from external sources and grants.
  • Identify and coordinate the adoption and utilization of technology delivery systems to improve teaching and learning practice and improve operational efficiencies in administrative duties.
  • Direct and oversee the activities of the Coordinator of Apprenticeship Programs.
  • Direct the academic and student services teams to ensure FTCC meets compliance standards by operating within the State Board Codes, applicable laws, and accreditation standards.
  • Participate in the review, design, and approval of specifications for new buildings, renovations, and leased property and temporary facilities for College academic programs and support activities.
  • Direct and coordinate the program review process for both credit and non-credit programs, Academic Support Services, and Student Services and provide feedback on progress of meeting goals and objectives; review and approve new programs and services, changes to existing programs and services, and related resource allocations.
  • Select, train, motivate, and evaluate Curriculum, Corporate and Continuing Education, Academic Support and Student Services personnel and staff; establish and monitor employee performance objectives; prepare and present employee performance reviews; provide or coordinate staff training; work with supervisors to assist employees with corrective actions to address performance deficiencies; implement disciplinary procedures.
  • Direct the development and administration of the budget for assigned functions; direct the forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; make midyear corrections.
  • Direct and serve on a variety of College committees and task forces; research and develop recommendations related to the academic and administrative affairs of the College.
  • Serve as liaison to Cumberland County Schools and other secondary schools and institutions of higher learning regarding facilities, academic programs, cooperative projects, articulation agreements, and other matters of mutual concern and interest.
  • Supervise the enrollment reporting and accountability functions; evaluate productivity reports and prepare recommendations as needed.
  • Coordinate the strategic planning function within Curriculum Programs, Corporate and Continuing Education, Student Services, and Academic Support and monitor performance; ensure conformity of programs and activities with long-range priorities, goals, and objectives of the College.
  • Maintain awareness in current developments in management, higher education administrative trends, and fields related to assigned functions.
  • Represent the College at community and other organization functions.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

A Master’s degree in Education, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent. Five years of increasingly responsible academic program administration and teaching experience.

Preferred Requirements

A Doctorate degree in Education, Business Administration, or related field from an accredited college or university.
