Two years of successful Sociology instruction at the postsecondary level.

2. Demonstrated ability to use modern instructional technology (Microsoft Office, learning management systems, e-mail, Internet, student information databases, library research databases) and experience with Internet-based instruction
3. Competence in oral and written communication skills necessary for effective teaching
4. Ability to be organized, accurate, and punctual with paperwork and assigned tasks
5. Sensitivity to the needs and expectations of students, colleagues, and community groups
6. Ability to make presentations to small or large audiences

Essential Functions
The instructor of Sociology is primarily responsible for the planning, delivery, and evaluation of classroom instruction and for providing related services required for optimal student learning and effective educational programming. As a member of the social sciences faculty, the instructor is also accountable for assisting and supporting the discipline chair, and/or department deans, as needed, in meeting the instructional and curricular requirements of the program, department, and division. This is a 9-month position.
Job Duties
Instructional Duties
- Teach all courses, curriculum, and continuing education, as assigned, for the full duration of scheduled instruction, including seated, online, hybrid, and/or academic success courses as needed at any of Durham Tech’s instructional sites
- Be fully prepared with a syllabus and instructional plans for each class session in accord with the stated objectives of the course
- Enforce academic policy and procedures at all times, and comply with institutional rules and regulations pertinent to classroom instruction and general employment;
- Maintain posted office and on-campus hours sufficient to fulfill all contracted duties and individual professional obligations, as well as to meet the needs of the department, division, and college
- Being available out of class to students requiring additional assistance;
- Serve as an educational advisor to students and participate in semester advising and registration activities for both assigned advisees and as needed by individual students
- Assisting the discipline chair in the identification, preview, and acquisition of needed educational resources, including textbook selection, library materials, laboratory supplies, and other instructional provisions;
- Participate in discipline, departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings, committees, and other special appointments
- Assist in the revision and development of course outlines, syllabi, curriculum plans, and other instructional documentation and in the identification, development, preview, and acquisition of educational resources and supplies required to meet program objectives and improve instruction
- Maintain complete course and student records, reports, and forms in a timely, efficient manner;
- Fulfilling committee assignments and other special appointments within the educational community as well as the community-at-large, and otherwise giving appropriate support to institutional endeavors when appropriate;
- Maintaining proper communication and supportive relations at all times with all other units and branches of the division and the college, providing assistance to them in carrying out their respective functions;
- Attend training and other professional development opportunities on- or off-campus and stay current with developments in the field of instruction
- Assume other necessary responsibilities and perform additional tasks as assigned by the chair, department dean, chief instructional officer, or president, in meeting the needs of the department, division, and college

Required Working Hours
A forty-hour workweek scheduled within both day and evening hours to allow the instructor to fulfill adequately the assigned duties and responsibilities.Job Type
