Job Description

The Division of Applied Social Sciences at the University of Missouri, Columbia, MO is seeking a highly motivated, dedicated postdoctoral research scholar to conduct innovative research in the areas of the water quality valuation, nonmarket valuation techniques, and the social cost of water pollution. The focus of this position is on conducting WTP analysis for water quality in under-represented water bodies in the Midwest, using choice experiment techniques with special attention given to the development and testing of variables characterizing the extent of the market. This is an interdisciplinary EPA project, and in addition to being overseen by two environmental economists (Ohler and McCann), the postdoc will work with ecosystem modelers from Kansas State, a limnologist from the University of Missouri, and volunteers with the Lakes of Missouri Volunteer program to determine plausible attribute ranges.

Primary responsibilities of the position(s) include: (1) developing a survey to elicit water quality valuation using choice experiment techniques; (2) piloting and implement they survey in partnership with the Lakes of Missouri Volunteers; (3) analyzing the survey results to determine extent of market characteristics and valuation for ecosystem services; and (4) co-authoring peer-reviewed journal articles for publication.

The position is full-time with funding available for 2 years. The position is available starting in January 2023.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in agricultural economics, environmental and resource economics, or experimental economics by the time of appointment.

Candidates will be evaluated on: their experience with choice experiments or conjoint analysis, econometric methods, survey design, spatial analysis, water quality, communication skills and an interest in working with interdisciplinary researchers.
