Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Gillings School’s Department of Nutrition is a global leader in research and training. We are the only nutrition department in the United States situated in both a school of public health and a school of medicine. We engage in innovative work that capitalizes on both these schools’ approaches to health, and thus our department has an unusual breadth of scientific and policy approaches. Our faculty expertise spans from cell to society and moves from discovery to delivery. Our faculty and students work throughout North Carolina and reach populations in China, India, Malawi, Spain and the Philippines, to name a few.
Position Summary
The Postdoc will perform research of cardiometabolic effects of environmental pollutants and role of nutrition as a modulator of these effects. This will include conducting laboratory studies using tissue culture and animal models.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
PhD degree in biology, biochemistry, toxicology, molecular biology, cell biology, or related disciplines.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Hands-on experience with both tissue culture and mouse models and with advanced biochemical and molecular biology techniques is an essential requirement.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Preference will be given to applicants with dissertation research and/or postdoctoral training in the area of environmental health or nutrition. Additional experience or training in analytical chemistry, omics methods, epidemiology and/or statistical analysis of large data sets is a plus.
