Job Description

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

  • Position Summary

The Chemistry Department at Boston College is seeking to hire a Postdoctoral Research Associate with a
background in synthetic organic and organometallic chemistry. Expertise in boron chemistry and the chemistry of
photo-excited states of small molecules is desirable. The postdoctoral associate will develop the synthesis of organic
materials that will undergo a rearrangement under photoirradiation. The project will be conducted under the
supervision of Prof. Shih-Yuan Liu.
The postdoctoral associate will have access to state-of-the-art research facilities. They will also have the opportunity
to be a part of a world-class scientific team and involved in vigorous research programs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following tasks:
? Synthesize and characterize molecules.
? Investigate the photochemistry of synthesized molecules.
? Actively participate in group meetings, including presenting research and recent literature.
? Participate in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations.
? Participate in lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and upgrading, and ordering supplies as
needed.
? Mentor/train graduate and undergraduate students

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
? Ph.D. or equivalent, with a background in organic chemistry and/or organometallic chemistry.
? Experience with inert synthetic techniques.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
? Experience with photophysical studies.
? Experience with boron chemistry.
? Experience with mentoring.
