Immediate Supervisor’s Title: Dean of Career-Technical Education
Positions Supervised: None
Term of Position: 12 months
Minimum Requirements:
A master’s degree which includes twenty-four (24) semester hours of graduate guidance courses; and a minimum of two (2) years of teaching and/or related work experience in areas such as employment counseling, academic counseling, or human relations; five years or more experience is preferred.
Position Description: (primary functions)
- Disseminates occupational information to students
- Selects, administers, and interprets test instruments used in assisting students in making career choices
- Coordinates orientation, testing maintaining files, and placement with Special Populations personnel
- Provides academic advisement and assists students in educational planning
- Provides personal counseling (apply the accepted methods of counseling/psychotherapy within the content of the helper-helpee relationship)
- Uses interest, ability, personality, and intelligence tests within the parameters of professional and ethical guidelines to assist in the counseling process
- Provides advisement and/or counseling to students who are on probation or who are identified as potential probationary students
- Provides accurate information and assists students in planning over the telephone when necessary
- Works with students to select appropriate courses and assists in scheduling at late registration and schedule change
- Assists students in the evaluation of transcripts for planning purposes
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director for Workforce Education
