POSITION SUMMARY

**This is a grant funded position**

The Workforce Student Success Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing and directing activities for DHHR program students as well as organizing Career Advancement registrations.

This position is funded though a DHHR grant and focuses on DHHR student services and Career Advancement Services available to DHHR students and a general student population. This position will coordinate a broad range of activities for the School of Workforce and Engineering Technologies with a focus on DHHR students. This position maintains regular offices hours at the School of Workforce and Engineering Technologies front office.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is responsible for planning, organizing and directing activities for DHHR program students as well as organizing Career Advancement Training opportunities for all open enrollment students.

This position will assist DHHR and Career Advancement students in successfully reaching their goals by assisting student to apply, enter and complete their academic and training goals. This position will assist students with such activities as:

  • Apply and become accepted into Blue Ridge CTC as either a degree seeking or Career Advancement student
  • Apply for financial aid prior to admission (Complete FAFSA and work with Financial Aid Personnel
  • Determining appropriate career service direction ad appropriate programs of study
  • Coordinating appropriate advisement activities with the assigned advisor
  • Support student Success and orient students to available college services
  • Assist students to progress through programs of study with the goal of graduation.
  • Coordinate with DHHR case workers and management as needed to support student completion.
  • Provide students with information regarding resources available to be successful I achieving education goals, including non-academic resources.
  • Maintain comprehensive participant records and compile reports as requested
  • Organize and conduct training on personnel development topics including stress management, time management, study skills, and other topics related to overall student success.
  • Travel to meet with participants in the program, DHHR representatives, and Blue Ridge CTC Personnel. Travel to meetings within the state may be required.
  • Instruct courses or offer counseling in transitional studies, college preparation and college success, as identified by assessment of TANF participants academic needs
  • Manage the HEAPS (Higher Education Adult Part-time Student) Applications and invoicing for the School of Workforce and Engineering Technology.
  • Manage online course provider agreements and online course enrollment through multiple online providers.
  • Manage Augusoft® Lumens software, registrations and course records in compliance with HLC guidelines.
  • Offices from the HQ main campus located in Martinsburg and occasionally offices at the Blue Ridge CTC Morgan County Center as required for office coverage.
  • Manager enrollment, records and invoicing for the Associate Dean of Career Advancement Education.
  • Coordinates textbook ordering for the School of Workforce Engineering Technologies
  • Supports the Associate Dean of Career Advancement Education who is the position supervisor
  • This position is responsible for being at the School of Workforce and Engineering Technologies front desk to greet and meet with students and to handle walk-in student inquiries, especially available to DHHR walk-in students.
  • This position does not have a telecommute option unless directed by the supervisor.
  • Attend and present at DHHR local office meetings with DHHR candidates regarding services offered at Blue Ridge CTC.
  • Serves as a member of assigned committees and taskforces.
  • Participates in the strategic planning processes for the School of Workforce and Engineering Technologies.
  • Supports the Associate Dean of Career Advancement Education who provides supervision for this position.
  • Performs assigned duties and any other duties to drive the College’s Vision, to fulfil the College’s Mission, and to abide by the College’s Values.

Education

  • Master’s Degree required with a preference for Human Services related filed and/or Adult Education

Experience

  • Two years or more experience teaching, training or instructive counseling of adult students.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional, helpful manner.
  • Excellent teamwork skills: skilled at collaborating with all areas of the College in a positive manner that supports diversity and a respectful workplace.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in an environment of rapid growth and change.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal clerical support.
  • Strong skills in setting priorities, organization and time management
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn continuing education registration systems.
  • Knowledgeable in use of Word and Excel (intermediate level).
  • Understanding of the organization of public higher education systems.
  • Familiarity with issues faced by community college students, especially in rural settings. Ability to relate to a diverse population.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Background in adult career and social advisement.
  • Ability to analyze programs, identify solutions, and take appropriate action to resolve problems, using independent judgment and decision-making processes. Ability to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with faculty and administrators.
  • Ability to multi-task and organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with attention to detail.
  • Commitment to following all College policies and procedures.

Licensure/Certification Required

  • Valid driver’s license required.
