Position Summary
A one-year-long Research Fellowship is available under the supervision of Dr. Sergio Almécija (AMNH). This is a full-time position to study the motion of wild apes as a part of a multi-institutional collaborative project. The Research Fellow will be involved in all steps of data processing and analysis of 3D photogrammetric data already collected in natural environments, as well as in the posterior writing of the papers.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Organizing, processing, digitizing, and analyzing 3D kinematic data from apes. This includes digitizing anatomical landmarks on raw videos, calibration of 2D into 3D data, and creating code to calculate biomechanical variables (e.g., joint angles).
Participation in data analysis and interpretation to aid in drafting figures and text for publication.
Working with other lab group members as a mentor and collaborator on research projects and laboratory procedures.
Part of the work/training will occur at other institutions in the NY area.
Required Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a science or technical field required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of a higher degree (MS or PhD) in a field related to biomechanics is preferred, but not required.
  • Background in coding (Matlab and/or R) required.
  • Strong interest in furthering their biomechanical/coding skill set development and in developing their CV through publications and abstract submissions.
