GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:

To plan, organize, and implement federal, state, and private loan programs for the College ensuring timely and accurate awarding, reporting, and distribution of funding to students and parents. To provide highly responsible and complex administrative staff support to the Director, Financial Aid; and coordinate assigned activities among college departments, other colleges, and outside agencies. This position receives general direction from the Director of Financial Aid and exercises some supervision.

NOTE: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

Knowledge of:

1. Students’ rights, responsibilities and obligations regarding financial aid.

2. Applicable Federal, State, and College rules and regulations regarding student financial aid programs.

3. Principles in accounting processes, procedures, and standards.

4. Principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation.

5. Modern office practices and procedures.

6. Current federal software/website functionality.

7. Counseling skills, record keeping, and reporting procedures.

8. Microcomputers and various software programs, including Colleague, Microsoft Office, and Federal sites, such as COD, NSLDS, and CPS.

9. Effective public relations.

Skills in: 10. Research, problem solving, and interpersonal communication.

Ability to: 11. Provide exceptional customer service and role model expectations within division.

12. Understand, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, and College policies.

13. Supervise, train, and evaluate personnel.

14. Maintain proficiency in frequently changing areas of responsibility. 15. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

16. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

17. Maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials.

18. Reconcile large dollar accounts between the Department of Education and the College.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Sedentary-Desk work; occasional field trips e.g. for college or program activities. Minimal Hazard/Exposure-Standard office setting. At least minimal environmental controls are in place to assure health and comfort.

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Business or Higher Education.

Experience: At least 2 years of work experience in a Financial Aid or Higher Education setting.
