Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Post-doctoral fellow will contribute to the soybean, plant-based protein and millets crop breeding programs by participating in activities and conducting experiments related to study of plant pathology. Work will involve field and lab research and breeding experiments related to cultivar and germplasm development and associated research project in phenomics, genomics and screening for biotic stresses including diseases and insect-pests. The incumbent will develop and modify experimental designs, methods and techniques, and lead efforts on plant selection in field and lab for plant diseases. Other responsibilities will include field breeding related tasks from planting to harvest, and data analysis. The successful candidate will have excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, and will lead as well as assist in preparation of reports, papers and grants. They will be self-motivated researcher, with effective written and verbal communication skills, and ability to meet research and work deadlines.
This is a team environment with multiple inter-disciplinary projects. Summary of duties and responsibilities: (1) conduct independent research and lead projects, which include other team members, (2) testing and protocol development and modification, disease inoculum production and maintenance, inoculations in natural and artificial growth conditions, disease ratings and data management, (3) publish research results in peer-reviewed journals, (4) responsible for data collection of breeding, pathology/entomology experiments, (5) participate in developing grant proposals or writing proposals, (6) assist with writing reports to communicate research results and progress to the project stakeholders, (7) assist with the supervision of graduate and undergraduate students in the lab, (8) data analysis of experiments related to plant sciences, pathology/entomology, (9) participate in cultivar development activities throughout the year, and (10) minor activities related to lab and resources management.
The candidate will be advised by Dr. Arti Singh and Dr. A.K. (Danny) Singh.
Initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal pending available funding and satisfactory performance.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in Plant Pathology or Plant Breeding with documented Plant Pathology related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Peer-reviewed publication in the area of work described in the job profile
  • Experience in plant pathology and plant stress screening
  • Proficiency in analysis of field and lab experiments (data analysis)
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written)
  • Independence in conducting research.
