Job Description

Scope of Position: Assistant Teacher is responsible for assisting with preparing and implementing daily instructional activities for community-based 36-week after school program for children, grades K – 5th. Assistant Teacher will monitor and record children’s progress, and perform general administrative duties as assigned with high level of professionalism and integrity. Assistant Teacher promotes Community Services Foundation’s vision and educational objectives. Assistant Teacher reports to the Director of Academics.
Responsibilities: Assistant Teacher shall help implement appropriate STEAM, Digital Literacy, Health & Wellness, and Character Education curriculum as identified by Lead Teacher, and will assist with adult literacy training. Assistant Teacher will work with the Academic Director, Lead Teacher and other staff members to foster an atmosphere of goodwill, open communication, and teamwork. Assistant Teacher is responsible for knowing and following current MSDE and LEA policies and regulations. Assistant Teacher is responsible for the safety and well?being of the children and is obligated to report to the Director any action or behavior by any person which might be detrimental to a child or group of children within the program.
Specific Duties:
  • Supports the implementation of developmentally appropriate academic enrichment (STEAM, Digital and Health & Wellness) curriculum.
  • Helps creates a learning environment that engages student interest, promotes student leadership and stimulates student learning.
  • Uses thoughtful approaches to teaching concepts to spark student interest while also imparting essential factual knowledge.
  • Provides a balance between child?initiated and teacher?initiated activities.
  • Assists in development of good nutrition habits and socialization skills.
  • Assists with facilitating literacy and other skills training for parents.
  • Reports participants’ developmental progress on on?going basis and assists with generating reports on progress.
  • Assists with establishing routines with smooth transition periods between daily instruction and activities.
  • Helps maintains child?staff and group size ratios.
  • Helps maintains a safe, sanitary & healthy environment, and notifies the Academic Director and other appropriate staff of maintenance issues.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum: One year of teaching experience in kindergarten or elementary education, or related educational programs.
  • Ability to learn and use specialized software, websites, and databases.
  • Ability to communicate professionally verbally, in writing, and through email. Strong computer skills. Working knowledge of online meeting tools, such as Zoom or Google Meet.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. MSDE Professional Eligibility Certificate or similar teaching certification from other jurisdictions.
