Position Summary

This is a full-time exempt position in TRIO Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) at South Seattle College (SSC) and is funded by the US Dept. of Education through August 2026. Continuation of this position is contingent upon funding. The EOC program works with individuals, primarily adults 19 and over, who are low-income and potentially first-generation college students who reside in South King County. SSC TRIO EOC's program has a focus on English language learners and Veterans' populations.

Under the supervision of the Director of TRIO EOC, the Student Development Specialist will be responsible for providing assistance to potential students who wish to pursue a postsecondary education. This position's primary duties will be in assisting potential students directly with the preparation of applications for admission and financial aid. This position will participate in outreach, campus, and community engagement activities on and off campus, to inform the community of educational opportunities at SSC as well as surrounding local colleges in the target area.

This is an on-campus, in-person role with some options for occasional remote work.

What you will be working on:

  • Conduct eligibility and needs assessment based on TRIO EOC regulations with potential applicants and students
  • Provide comprehensive one-on-one admissions. enrollment support, and FAFSA appointments with students through various modalities (e.g.-in person, Zoom, MS Teams, phone, etc.)
  • Collaborate with on campus and off campus partners in supporting TRIO EOC potential students and programming
  • Attend and participate in staff and campus meetings, program related trainings, and in-service, professional development opportunities
  • Coordinate with various departments on SSC campus to create and maintain admissions and funding related resources
  • Maintain TRIO EOC enrollment records and assist with data entry of EOC applicants and service provided into EOC's program database
  • Develop, plan, coordinate, and execute events and presentations on postsecondary education options and financial aid opportunities to participants in groups and/or in one-on-one settings in the target area
  • Serve as program contact among the local community organizations, educational entities, and other student support services for SSC TRIO EOC
  • Assist with preparation and implementation of marketing efforts to inform the target area about program eligibility, services, and goals
  • Assist with development and updating of program website and social media
  • Create and maintain an organized shared drive folder of reference materials to support the TRIO EOC team in the delivery of admissions, enrollment, and funding resource information
  • Serve as primary e-mail lead for TRIO EOC's general email accounts
  • Supporting supervision of workstudy position(s) in TRIO EOC


What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field
  • Minimum two years in a direct service or customer service-related role
  • Experience and knowledge of, working with, or being a part of TRIO EOC's target populations: low income, first generation, English language learners, and/or Veterans
  • Demonstrated experience with working effectively with persons from diverse backgrounds, such as racial, ethnic, religious, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic, and diverse physical and learning disabilities
  • Experience and knowledge of community college degrees, professional technical options, and transfer process
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the financial aid process
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize multiple tasks, problem-solve and plan for cyclical calendar events and meeting deadlines with being attentive to detail
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office suite, Zoom, and computer technology
