Duties and Responsibilities
Professor Abbasi is recruiting a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to specialize in lightning research, observations, and applications. The selected applicant will work closely with Professor Abbasi and the Telescope Array collaboration on observing the optical emissions from Terrestrial Gamma-ray Flashes (TGFs), using a high-speed video camera and a photometer system.
The main research responsibilities for the position are to analyze the data from the high-speed video camera and the photometers in correlation with the TGFs observed by the Telescope Array Surface Detector (TASD) and the lighting observed by the (INTerFerometer) INTF at the TASD site. The successful applicant will also collect and maintain data from the optical instruments at the TASD site and perform simulations of the optical component of TGFs and lighting. In addition, this position will require the presentation and publication of research findings at scientific conferences and in academic journals. It will also require travel to Utah several times a year.
The successful applicant will also work closely with the Physics Department at LUC in teaching classes during the spring semester of their appointment, allowing the post-doctoral research associate a unique opportunity to develop both their research and teaching skills. Specifically, the post-doctoral research associate will teach undergraduate courses and labs, corresponding to teaching load of 3, during the spring semester.
