Job Summary

The Research & Innovation Office at CU Boulder is welcoming applications for a hypersonics Postdoctoral Research Associate, who will support efforts to grow the campus National security-related research enterprise. This position will report directly to the Director, National Security Initiative (NSI) within the Research and Innovation Office (RIO). The hypersonics Postdoctoral Research Associate is responsible for designing and performing research in advancing the development and application of computational tools for the analysis of various aspects of hypersonic vehicle performance and phenomena including aerothermodynamics, materials, structures, propulsion, signatures, and mission design.

The candidate must have a detailed understanding of the current U.S. activities on hypersonics in the national security domain, both in terms of weapons development and approaches to counter hypersonics. The candidate should have excellent technical and communication skills and be comfortable working in a team environment.

The anticipated start date for this position is January 2023.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Develop and apply computational tools for analysis of various aspects of hypersonic vehicle performance and phenomena including aerothermodynamics, materials, structures, propulsion, signatures, and mission design.
  • Assist in the development of research proposals, key research tasks, and deliverables.
  • Effectively share and communicate research results with colleagues, researchers and professionals in industry, government, national laboratories and academia through white papers, peer-reviewed publications, and presentations.

  • Travel out-of-state will be required.
  • Regular work hours including evenings and weekends may be required.

  • We offer a competitive salary, commensurate with experience, along with a generous benefits package.
  • The salary offered for this 80% appointment is $68,000.00.

What We Require

  • PhD in Aerospace Engineering or a related field.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills; strong interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work within a complex, dynamic, matrixed structure across departments, colleges and university administration and externally with government and industry partners.
