Full Job Description

The position is in the Center for Advanced Medical Analytics (CAMA) in the Division of Cardiology at the University of Virginia. CAMA is a resource for University of Virginia Health System investigators using Big Data to improve clinical outcomes. We are a multi-disciplinary group, allowing UVa and its clinicians and quantitative scientists to efficiently use Big Data to solve emerging complex health system medical engineering problems. Roles would include:

  • Collection of patient data, through a variety of automated and non-automated techniques, including Electronic Medical Record (EMR) review (specifically the use of EPIC), REDCap database generation and manipulation, and direct patient interaction (for example the administration of questionnaires to patients)

  • Curation, processing and warehousing of patient data, according to FAIR principles of data handling

  • Analysis of patient data using a variety of contemporary tools, including proficiency with MATLAB, Python, R etc. A background in mathematics and/or biostatistics would be preferred

  • Development of predictive analytic tools utilizing patient data, using a variety of techniques including logistic regression analyses, machine- and deep-learning techniques

  • Assist in the execution of clinical trial protocols for assessing the utility of predictive analytic tools

  • Write and develop IRB protocols for the extension of research avenues

  • The performance of clinical trials may require weekend hours as defined in each study protocol.

  • Proficient in computer applications. Working knowledge of various database and software programs. Advanced ability to keep detailed records and manage and analyze confidential data.

  • Working knowledge of acute care and ICU hospital patients. Knowledge of medical terminology.

  • This position provides assistance and guidance to Clinical Research Coordinators to maximize enrollment, ensure subject safety, maintain exemplary conduct and generate accurate, complete and substantiated data.

  • The incumbent is responsible for the management of multiple relationships with individuals outside of the team, including Principal Investigators, hospital staff, and faculty from Medical School Departments.

  • Responsibilities include ensuring full compliance with local, state and federal policies, procedures and regulations as well as sponsor requirements.

  • Assist Principal Investigator in developing clinical trial protocols, and submit the required documentation to the Institutional Review Board, the University, and corporate or government sponsors.

  • Support the orientation and training of new research team members and other staff.

  • Order and maintain supplies, and make day-to-day decisions supporting the study.

  • The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that all regulatory requirements are met and for maintaining the highest levels of quality possible.

This position will remain open until filled. This is an Exempt level, benefited position. This position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance.
