POSITION SUMMARY

The Library & Tutoring Center Lead oversees library, tutoring, and student computer center activities at the Yamhill Valley campus. The Lead is responsible for maintaining a positive customer service environment, coordinating staffing, and training tutors. This position works closely with the Library and Tutoring Coordinators to ensure consistency across service points throughout the district. The Lead provides direct support for students, including subject matter tutoring and content reinforcement. Ability to tutor students in a variety of college subjects is highly desirable. The anticipated start date for thisposition will be December 1, 2022.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead Responsibilities

  • Serves as lead staff member responsible for YVC Library & Tutoring Center operations; maintains consistency and regular communication with Salem campus services
  • Ensures a positive customer service environment
  • Coordinates staff and tutor schedules, class visits, and activities within the Center, working closely with Library and Tutoring Coordinators and other campus departments
  • Creates and implements a promotion plan for Library & Tutoring services each term
  • Attends student services staff meetings; supports campus initiatives as a member of this team
  • Makes regular reports to the Dean, Yamhill Valley Campus and the Dean, Library & Learning Resources
  • Leads unit staff meetings
  • Serves as Tutoring Services liaison for Yamhill Valley and Polk campuses
  • Compiles reports and unit statistics
  • May open and close the facility

Supervision

  • Recruits, hires, and trains student and part-time hourly tutors; observes and evaluates performance; trains students in use of appropriate technologies and methods for tutoring; facilitates tutor training; may train staff in circulation/library functions
  • Coordinates all tutoring for YVC (embedded, in-person, online); helps to develop the district-wide strategy for tutoring each term

Library Support

  • Staffs public service desk; provides customer service to students, faculty/staff, and public patrons; performs circulation functions in an automated environment; responds to complaints and inquiries; interprets library policies and explains rules referring patrons to Library Coordinator when appropriate
  • Serves as functional backup for library operations, as needed

Tutoring

  • Assists students individually and in small groups with understanding course content and improving critical thinking skills
  • In collaboration with the Tutoring Services team, develops appropriate curricular enhancements, assists in the management of the embedded tutoring program, and ensures a consistent, high level of quality in the delivery of tutoring assistance
  • Develops and maintains appropriate subject and study skills handouts
  • Staffs eTutoring service, as required
  • Maintains awareness of emerging trends and tools in education technology
  • Recommends adoption of specific educational applications and regularly receives training in appropriate tools

Other Functions

  • Cooperates as a member of Library and Tutoring team in performing tasks essential to the achievement of unit goals and objectives
  • Attends other meetings, as directed
  • Hosts tutor recognition at YVC
  • Creates a variety of flyers, brochures, advertisements, and other promotional documents
  • Offers technical assistance with a range of technology tools, as needed

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree from an accredited institution
-AND-
Two years of progressively responsible instructional field-related experience, including one year of experience tutoring high school or adult learners

------OR------

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
-AND-
Six months experience tutoring high school or adult learners

------OR------

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and successful completion of a nationally recognized tutor certification program (such as CRLA) level 1 or higher

Preferred Qualifications

  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience in a library or learning center
  • One year of experience working with an integrated library system (ILS)
  • Understanding of collection management or inventory control practices
  • Knowledge and experience in the development of college-level academic support programs, and tutor training/certification
  • Experience with College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) tutor certification program
  • Demonstrated experience with online tutoring
  • Practical experience with current and emerging instructional technologies such as: course management systems (Bb, Canvas, etc.), Zoom, Pearson’s MyLabs, etc.
  • Demonstrated project management experience
  • Ability to work with data and compile statistical information
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • This is a 100%, 12-month classified assignment of the B3 band and grade
  • This position has a 6-month probationary period
  • All positions at Chemeketa are required to be available for work onsite as requested by the college.
  • Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends
  • This position may require the use of your personal vehicle for transportation between campus locations
  • If requested, requires the provision of official transcripts upon hire
  • Employees must maintain Oregon, Washington or Idaho residency as a condition of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to more objects. Even though weight lifted may be negligible, it may be rated light work if frequent walking and/or standing is required.

PUBLIC SERVICE LOAN FORGIVENESS

Chemeketa Community College is considered a qualifying public employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, full-time employees working at the College may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan.
