Overview

The Research Data Specialist will support the Breast Oncology database in the areas of data collection, computing, and database organization. Duties may include but are not limited to; the examination, synthesis, and evaluation of medical records; the abstraction and recording of pertinent medical information; and the monitoring of patient status in followup through review of medical records. The Research Data Specialist will be responsible for the collection, management, and quality assurance review of patient clinical data.

Responsibilities

  • Review and abstract clinical information from medical records for patients into departmental databases upon study enrollment and follow-up.
  • Verify data for quality and completeness based on audits and standard quality assurance reports and for preparation for analyses.
  • Collaborate with other RDS, project managers,p rincipal investigators, analyst programmers and IS staff in the continued development of the database infrastructure for breast oncology and DFCI.
  • Assist principal investigators and study team in the creation of lists of patients for routine queries for study feasibility and analyses that may include various data sources such as departmental databases (e.g. RedCap), OnCore, and caTissue and interfaces with OncDRS.
  • Assist principal investigators and study team in the collection of additional clinical datafor specific research studies when needed.
  • May assist study team with other research-related tasks such as: identification and collection of biological specimens; regulatory needs such as User Committee proposals,IRB applications, amendments and continuing reviews.

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 0-1 year of related experience preferred. Experience working in a medical or scientific research setting or comparable technology orientated business environment preferred.
  • Computer skills, including proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products, required.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills - ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff and external contacts.
  • Must be detail oriented and have the ability to follow-through.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and prioritize workload.
  • Must practice discretion and adhere to institutional confidentiality guidelines at all times.
