Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy, and Leadership is searching for a tenure-track, open-rank faculty position in Education Policy. Located in the Washington, DC-Baltimore corridor, the University of Maryland, College Park, is the flagship research university and a land grant institution committed to rigorous research, quality teaching, and informed public service. The Department is deeply committed to equity and excellence, embraces a broad range of theoretical and methodological orientations, values collaborative research, and encourages faculty to work across divisions and specializations. The Department also supports the development and dissemination of policy-relevant research and school improvement initiatives through the Maryland Equity Project.
The Department seeks candidates who study the politics of education reform and racial/ethnic equity, and bring understanding of political science or a related field. We also seek candidates who can support students in conducting research with direct applications to education policy and practice, with a preference for scholars who engage in mixed-methods work.

Minimum Qualifications:

Earned doctorate in education or related field (completion of all requirements for a doctorate except the submission of an approved dissertation is acceptable for application).

Preferences:

Applicants must have a doctorate in education or a related field. Additionally, candidates must have: (a) a strong interest in educational opportunity for historically marginalized and minoritized students in preK-12 school settings, particularly with regard to race and ethnicity; (b) the substantive grounding required to examine education reforms that center on racial/ethnic equity and are advanced by local communities or local, state or national governments; © expertise in research methods to support graduate students in multiple types of research designs; (d) evidence of impactful research and a record of publications in leading refereed journals and respected professional outlets; (e) evidence of existing collaborative relationships with colleagues in university, school systems, government agencies, research institutes, and education reform networks (for advanced junior or senior scholars), or the potential to develop these relationships (for junior scholars); (f) the ability to teach/advise students with diverse backgrounds in programs that prepare scholars, policy analysts and educational leaders; (g) a track record of success in securing external funding (senior scholars), or the capacity to secure funding (for junior scholars); (h) a record of professional service commensurate with rank; and (i) the potential to contribute to the diversity mission of the department and the university.
