Columbia State Community College is recruiting for an Academic Success Coach (TRIO)

The Academic Success Coach for participants in the Student Support Services program is responsible for developing and providing direct services to students in support of their academic achievement, persistence, graduation and transfer. The position provides case management services to students selected to participate in the grant funded Student Support Services program which targets students who are low income, first generation or disabled.

This is a grant funded position located at the Lawrenceburg Campus.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist in participant recruitment and selection.
  • Develop and monitor student success plans with participants.
  • Conduct individual and group academic counseling and case management services.
  • Cooperates with faculty, advisors, financial aid office, career services, university center and other offices that provide support to participant success.
  • Conduct Summer Bridge Program and/or other programs that contribute to participant success.
  • Collect participant data that support evaluation of the program.
  • Maintain accurate records of student participation in services and activities.
  • Promotes relationships with transfer institutions, and informs advisors as changes occur.

Supplemental Functions:

  • Serves on college committees.
  • Participates in other college activities
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Work Characteristics:

  • Ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; knowledge of personal counseling, career counseling, and testing; conflict-resolution and referral skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to work with diverse faculty, staff, students, and community members.
  • Ability to work well as an effective team member.
  • Computer, office management, and organizational skills.

Working Conditions:

1. Must be able to work a flexible schedule as evening and weekend work is required.

2. Based at Lawrenceburg but requires travel to other sites and centers.

3. Extensive use of personal computer.

Titles Supervised:

Part-time program personnel as assigned

Requirements of the Position

1. Baccalaureate degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work or related area.

2. Three or more years experience in an academic advising or counseling environment

3. One year experience working with low income, first generation, or students with disabilities.

4. Knowledge, understanding and/or experience with the needs of disadvantaged college students.

5. Proficient with Microsoft Office programs and experience with Banner Student Information System

6. Strong oral and written communication skills.

7. Ability to work with and communicate effectively with diverse populations

Hiring Salary Range: $39,590 - $49,480


This is a grant funded position located at the Lawrenceburg Campus.
