Summary of Job Purpose and Principal Duties
We are seeking an exceptional candidate to enhance excellence in economics within the School of Business. The successful candidate would be a member of the Economic Studies discipline and would be expected to contribute to the success of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes – which include MA/BSc degrees in Economics, Financial Economics and Business Economics, MSc Business Analytics, a successful MSc in International Business, and any new programmes we will develop in the field, by taking an active role in their delivery and design.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate modules in both theoretical and practical settings, in particular expertise in applied economics, applied econometrics, business analytics and/or international economics would be particularly beneficial.
  • Use innovative teaching methods to deliver high quality and effective teaching at all levels to equip students with the skills, attributes and experience required for their future careers
  • Assist with the supervision of multi-disciplinary research projects at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, ensuring that each student receives an outstanding research experience
  • Supervise research students
  • Contribute to the scholarship activities of the Economic Studies discipline
  • Develop appropriate opportunities to engage in interdisciplinary scholarship with other academic, industrial partners and/or third sector partners, as well as participate and support scholarship activities
  • Seek out external grant income to support your scholarship
  • Carry out a range of administrative tasks within the school and provide academic support to students
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability and willingness to work collaboratively with others and be an effective team member
  • Travel on occasional University business to support the recruitment and/or partnership activities
  • Maintain a personal development programme as agreed with academic line manager


Summary of Skills, Experience and Qualifications
Essential:

  • PhD in a relevant subject
  • Clear evidence of excellence in University (or equivalent) learning and teaching
  • Experience of setting, marking, assessing work and examinations and providing feedback to students
  • Experience of supervision of undergraduate and taught postgraduate student projects
  • A developing scholarly profile and the ability to produce outputs in academic journals
  • Clear evidence of scholarship objectives and the ability to conduct individual or collaborative scholarship projects
  • Scholarship and teaching experience relating to different areas of economics
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Evidence of ability and willingness to work collaboratively with others
  • Evidence of effective team membership
  • Ability to prioritise and balance competing demands
  • Ability to engage and travel in occasional overseas recruitment activities
