Post-Doctoral Position

Post-Doctoral Position Available at the University of Pennsylvania Center for Brain Injury and Repair

A postdoctoral position is available in the NIH funded laboratory of Douglas H. Smith, M.D. in the Department of Neurosurgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania (https://www.med.upenn.edu/smithlab/). The Penn Center for Brain Injury and Repair has been in existence for more than 30 years and comprises a multi-disciplinary research team studying the acute and chronic effects of neurotrauma and neural repair mechanisms

The main focus of the lab is investigating the mechanisms driving both acute and chronic outcomes following traumatic brain injury. We employ a range of models and techniques including: an in vitro injury model, small and large translational animal TBI models, post-mortem human tissue, immunofluorescence, histopathology, biochemistry, and molecular biology.

The preferred applicant will have experience in some of the aforementioned models and techniques. A strong publication record, understanding of research methodology, excellent writing and interpersonal skills are desirable. Applicants should have a broad neuroscience background as well as an interest in neurotrauma, including mechanisms of axonal injury and neurodegeneration. A Ph.D, M.D., or equivalent degree is required.

The University of Pennsylvania offers a diverse research environment with many collaborative opportunities.
