The Center for Understandable Performant Exascale Communication Systems (CUP-ECS) invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow to lead scientific research on the design, implementation, optimization, and evaluation of communication abstractions for high-performance computing systems under the mentorship of Prof. Patrick Bridges. Duties will include communication middleware design and implementation, performance modeling and measurement, system experimentation and optimization, and project management (e.g., timetabling, student supervision, and meeting project milestones). In addition, the fellow will also assist in the development of proposals for submission to funding agencies and in the preparation of manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed publication venues. The position includes a (required) funded ten-week residency at a U.S. Department of Energy National Laboratory.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Candidates must have completed a Ph.D. in computer science, physics, mathematics, or a related science/engineering field at the time of hire
- A demonstrated record of research accomplishment in a related field
- Ability to collaborate with NNSA laboratory partners and participate in laboratory residency
Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant experience in parallel programming, system software design and implementation, numerical methods, and/or computational science
- A record of prior achievement and experience that demonstrates the applicant’s potential to accomplish research and/or development objectives
- Evidence of strong verbal and written communication skills
- Evidence of ability to work well independently and in team setting
- A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
