Summary of Position

The Annual Giving Associate (AGA) for UNH Athletics helps integrate annual giving programming into key fundraising efforts focused on identifying individuals who are interested in financially contributing to advance the university’s mission and strategic plans. The incumbent will partner with fundraising colleagues, coaches, and staff to expand the athletics annual fund by running a comprehensive Annual Giving program that reaches all constituencies, including alumni, parents/families, students, faculty, staff, and friends. While managing a donor portfolio, the AGA will continually strive to improve and extend relationships with all constituencies in ways that have a quantifiable impact on philanthropic revenue. In addition, s/he will participate in an expansion of the existing vehicles and practices through which UNH can capitalize on the energy of a passionate and spirited alumni body.

The AGA will join the University of New Hampshire Foundation and UNH Athletics at an inflection point as we move forward with the quiet phase of an ambitious fundraising campaign. The incumbent will embrace goal-oriented outcomes and will be an entrepreneurial, creative thinker who is passionate about the fundraising potential for athletics. They will possess outstanding interpersonal competencies, ability to effectively manage projects, and be highly motivated, organized and detail oriented.

  • Minimum of one year of annual giving fundraising experience (or equivalent professional experience)
  • Associate degree and one years of related experience or high school graduation and three years of experience or equivalent combination of higher education and experience totaling three years.
  • Understanding of Annual Giving strategies and donor qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies (or demonstrated equivalent sales experience).
  • Understanding of the relevance of philanthropy
  • Comfort working in a metrics-driven environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, about fundraising support; requires the ability to build rapport in an open, friendly, and accepting way, listen attentively and change the thinking of, or gain acceptance of, others in sensitive situations
  • Strong interpersonal skills including negotiation and communication; able to reach across a wide variety of audiences for different areas of ethics and compliance
  • Sensitivity and experience interacting with internal and external constituents who are diverse in characteristics such as age, education level, race, gender identity and expression, ability, and socioeconomic backgrounds in a culturally competent and supportive manner
  • Demonstrated understating of the responsibility to maintain sensitive information
  • Sound judgment and ability to work well as part of a team, including collaboration with diverse university units and others
  • Ability to provide effective time and project management
  • Ability to travel on behalf of the university including local, regional, and domestic trips

Duty/Responsibility

Front-Line Fundraising (60%)
  • Manage and actively expand a portfolio consisting of alumni, parents, faculty, staff and friends capable of making annual gifts and maintain frequent contact with these prospects to build relationships and increase philanthropic support.
  • Conduct 100-125 donor/prospect visits each fiscal year via zoom or in person; meeting this activity goal will require travel across the state, region, and nation.
  • Solicit annual gifts from all prospects and any other constituents toward meeting personal and unit-wide annual revenue and constituent participation goals; solicitations will occur in person, via telephone, over email, and through all other relevant communication vehicles.
  • Partner with colleagues across Development/Advancement to plan effective engagement, solicitation, and stewardship strategies that will move prospects forward.
  • Qualify prospects for potential major and planned giving capacity and interest and provide background to appropriate colleagues to effectively move them through the pipeline.

Duty/Responsibility

Fundraising Coordination (40%)
  • Partner with senior Annual Giving staff and colleagues across assigned units, and with the central Annual Giving office on all direct response marketing efforts and communications they are executing (mail, phone, email, social media, etc.) for athletics to provide messaging and strategies.
  • Serve as a unit representative for The (603) Challenge by securing underwriter funds, coordinating multi-channel outreach, driving goals and strategies, recruiting volunteers, and motivating faculty and staff to participate.
  • Consult with faculty and staff from the various departments and programs across units to provide guidance on Annual Giving efforts they may be conducting to ensure they have a coordinated strategy and follow policies and procedures.
  • Partner with the Annual Giving team to develop strategy for assigned units in a manner that best aligns with leadership’s vision and priorities and with the overall Annual Giving strategy for the university that aims to significantly increase annual fund revenue and constituent participation in the current campaign.
  • Work collaboratively across the entire Development and Advancement teams to support UNH’s overall Annual Giving and other fundraising goals and strategic plans.
  • Assist in the determination of metrics and goals; regularly monitor progress through reporting and work to ensure these goals are achieved.
  • Participate in events, programs, meetings, and initiatives that support UNH and assigned units’ Annual Giving programs as directed by academic and Advancement leadership.
  • Engage, educate, and train key volunteers on Annual Giving and recruit new volunteers
