Job Summary

The College of Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences, and the Department of Behavioral Sciences at Purdue University Northwest announces an exciting opportunity to apply for a Post-Doctoral Faculty Fellow position in our COAMFTE Accredited Master of Science in Couple & Family Therapy Program. The successful candidate will teach graduate courses and provide supervision, participate in program governance as a core faculty member, advance a program of research, and participate in service to the profession and university. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to promoting diversity and social justice in their role as a faculty member. This newly created position in our program will have an amazing opportunity to create a program of research while advancing a faculty skill set in teaching and service. Additional time and resources may be negotiated for the successful candidate to ensure success in their efforts, based on program and department/college need. Applications are due by November 27th, 2022 but all applications will be reviewed until the position is filled. The initial appointment is anticipated to be for a two year contract, Fall of 2023 through Spring of 2025.

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Doctoral Degree in (Marriage) Couple & Family Therapy, ABD considered if degree in hand by start date
  • Licensed as a Marriage & Family Therapist – Preferably in the States of Indiana and Illinois, or eligible for licensure
  • Approved Supervisor or Supervisor-in-Training Status from AAMFT
  • Experience in teaching at the Graduate Level, minimum experience at the Undergraduate Level
  • Have an active research agenda or plan/pathway toward program of research

The College of Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences serves over 1,400 undergraduate students and 170 graduate students across a wide range of programs. Departments and Schools within the college include:

Department of Behavioral Sciences

The Couple and Family Therapy graduate program and Couple and Family Therapy Center are located at the PNW Indianapolis Boulevard Counseling Center and housed in Behavioral Sciences, a vibrant department with several programs and opportunities for collaboration. We also offer undergraduate majors in Behavioral Sciences, Criminal Justice, Human Development and Family Studies, Social Work, and Sociology. Our students are primarily first-generation college students. In support of the University’s Strategic Plan, the Department is committed to recruiting and retaining diverse faculty and staff who foster diverse learning environments for students.

Program Profile

The Couple & Family Therapy Program at Purdue University Northwest embraces a scholar/practitioner model of systemic family therapy training, heavily informed and influenced by social justice and the critical examination of social discourse. This program trains people to become agents of social change that are able to provide ethical, research-informed, culturally competent relational mental health services to a range of clients from intersectional social locations. Our program offers multiple opportunities to specialize and train in various approaches to systemic treatment, along with the academic and experiential preparation to begin a career as a “Marriage and Family Therapist” (the current license/professional title of our mental health discipline). Our students regularly publish articles and papers, present at national and international conferences, and go on for doctoral education around the country.
