ABOUT THE ED FUND
The Oakland Public Education Fund is the fiscal sponsor for Youth Beat. The Oakland Public Education Fund leads the development and investment of community resources in Oakland public schools so that all students can learn, grow, and thrive. Teaching Artists will be employees of the Oakland Public Education Fund working at Youth Beat. www.oaklandedfund.org.


ABOUT YOUTH BEAT
Youth Beat at KDOL-TV is a non-profit program (fiscally sponsored by the Oakland Public Education Fund) that offers free media production programs to Oakland youth. We provide hands-on training and job experience in video and music production, narrative and documentary filmmaking, photography, design and animation. We teach media to middle/high school students and young adults with the goal of keeping them engaged in school and developing job readiness skills to pursue careers in the media industry.
Our team of teaching artists, educators and producers facilitate after-school and in-school media programs at schools across the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD), and produce professional videos and media for our clients.


ABOUT THE ROLE
Youth Beat seeks a contract Grant Writer to identify grant opportunities and develop funding proposals and grant reports for private foundation, government and corporate entities. The Grant Writer will work independently but report to the Development Director. They will also work collaboratively with other staff members as needed to gather information and develop compelling grant materials.

The Grant Writer / Fundraiser is a paid, independent contractor who will regularly report to the Development Director and submit deliverables at agreed upon intervals. The independent contractor will work flexible hours with an average of approximately 10-12 hours of work per week. The position will be paid at $25-45/hour depending on experience.


Further opportunities to contribute to Youth BeatÂ’s fundraising efforts (e.g. donor communications and individual donor management/cultivation) are possible for the right candidate.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research and identify new government, corporate, foundations and private funding prospects that match organizational priorities.
  • Write and assemble clear, concise, well-crafted LOIs, grant proposals and grant reports.
  • Collaborate with staff to create or manage the creation of supplemental materials (e.g. videos, impact stories, support letters, etc.) for grant applications and reports.
  • Track and meet all deadlines

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent writing skills
  • Ability to pass a TB test.
  • Provide the necessary documentation to prove that you are a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or a foreign national with authorization to work in the United States


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Prior grant writing experience is a strong plus. However, we are willing to train someone with exceptional writing skills
