YMCA Early Learning Program in downtown Bellingham is currently looking for candidates to fill a few part time positions in our program. As the school year approaches for WWU/WCC/BTC, schedules are shifting and we're looking to add to our teams. Below are the positions we're hiring for:

Opening Preschool Teacher: Monday-Friday (must be able to work all 5 days), 6:30am until 9:00 am (working with 3-4 year olds, opening the classroom, preparing for the day, greeting families, some cleaning, some diapering)

Closing Pre-K Teacher: Monday-Friday (must be able to work all 5 days), 3:00-6:00/6:15 pm (working with 4-5 year olds, closing the classroom, filling families in on what happened during the day, some cleaning, classroom management, working with a team)

Child Watch Teacher: Monday-Friday, 8:45-1:15 pm (working with children in ages 4 months-8 years in small groups for short periods of time while parents are in the building working out). This position can be broken up between two people, so feel free to apply if you only have a few days of availability. Must be comfortable working independently with mixed ages of children.

Substitute Teachers: Varying schedule, Monday through Friday, working with children from 3 months up to 5 years, can be flexible around your school schedule. Ideal for education students who don't have a lot of freedom in scheduling classes around a work schedule.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Supervises the children, classroom, and all program activities.

· Follows all procedures and standards as established by the law or the Y; makes ADA accommodations where appropriate; maintains the program site, equipment, and required program records.

· Works alongside the Lead Teacher and other classroom teachers to engage children in a play-based curriculum, with an emphasis on social-emotional development; and arrange the environment using the ECERS or ITERs-R environmental rating scales.

· Creates a positive rapport and shared interest with all youth.

· Provides opportunities for youth to lead, problem-solve, and make decisions and choices within the program and provides daily opportunities for youth to reflect on and respond to their experiences.

· Assists the Lead Teacher in collecting documentation for use in child assessment and portfolios.

· Provides and welcomes ongoing dialogue with parents and caregivers about their child’s needs and progress; connects families to the Y.

· Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.

· Complete and records daily cleaning list, consistently cleaning, sanitizing, and organizing classroom materials and surfaces.

· Administers first aid, completes accident forms, and notifies the Lead Teacher, Program Supervisor, or Director.

· Follows organization’s policies and procedures regarding protecting youth from abuse; including screening and selection, training and supervision, and responding to allegations. Communicate to all staff and volunteers the organization’s commitment to protect youth from abuse.

· Follows mandated reporting requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must be 18 years of age or older and a high school graduate (or equivalent).

2. Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.

3. Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.

4. Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

5. Current CPR (Adult, Infant & Child) and First Aid, AED certifications.

6. Complete Praesidium Child Abuse prevention training within 15 days of hire.

7. STARS 30 Hour Childcare Basic Training (Must be completed within 3 months of hire date)

8. Must have or be in the process of obtaining the following:

___ Food Handlers Card

___ Cleared Portable Background Check from MERIT

___ MMR Immunization Record

Pay: $14.99 - $15.99 per hour

COVID-19 considerations:
Mask wearing is highly encouraged with staff during periods of high Covid transmission (required when working in the infant room), Covid-19 immunizations required, lots of testing for symptoms that are frequent in childcare (runny noses, colds, etc.)
