Director of Communications and Marketing

GENERAL STATEMENT OF FUNCTION :
The Director of Communications and Marketing leads communication efforts that support the mission, vision, and values of the college. This position serves as a project manager working in collaboration with campus divisions/departments to create and execute marketing and advertising plans that promote the college’s major initiatives, programs, services and events to various audiences. The director reports to the Executive Vice President of Institutional Advancement.

Job Duties
1. Lead internal and external communications and drive increased understanding and support for the college’s mission, strategic plan, communications initiatives, and other campaigns.
2. Provide guidance for employee engagement strategies and leverage technological solutions to enhance the college’s communication efforts.
3. Collaborate with the Executive Vice President for Institutional Advancement on annual planning efforts for the Institutional Relations department, including setting measurable goals that support the College’s mission and strategic plan.
4. Organize and oversee production of District Office/Community Campus publications.
5. Plan and implement the public relations aspects of special events such as building dedications, college anniversaries, legislative functions, and other special events or activities associated with the President’s Office.
6. Develop communication strategies that advance college initiatives, strengthen college culture, and support the college’s mission.
7. Supervise the creative development of advertising and marketing materials, with attention to detail and deadline management.
8. Actively seek, develop, manage, write, and edit compelling content for college publications and other communication vehicles to enhance communication and promote dialogue with key stakeholders.
9. Direct the branding of the institution’s image and oversee the communication and implementation of standards related to the College’s brand.
10. Develop metrics that use measurable feedback to assess stakeholder awareness and communications effectiveness.
11. Establish guidelines and procedures and recommend policies pertaining to internal communication, including administration of the employee intranet.
12. Develop and maintain close relationships across the college to identify storytelling opportunities and gaps in employee communication.
13. Collaborate with college leadership to organize annual employee meetings (i.e., Convocation), helping to oversee logistics and content including agendas and presentations.
14. Participate as a member of the Emergency Response Team, with a focus on internal and external audiences.
15. Represent the college at local, state, regional and national meetings related to areas of marketing, media and public relations as appropriate.
16. Oversee the supervision of certain personnel within the Institutional Relations division and conduct annual evaluations.
17. Performs other duties as assigned.

Mandatory Qualifications
MANDATORY :
(M1) Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in marketing, communications, business, or related field.
(M2) Demonstrate ability to plan strategically and implement programs/initiatives.
(M3) Experience in advertising management and/or media buying.
(M4) Exceptional organization skills in handling, managing and prioritizing multiple projects and stakeholders.
(M5) Excellent written and oral communication skills; strong presentation skills.
(M6) Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with others and work in a team environment.

Desirable Qualifications
DESIRABLE :
(D1) Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution.
(D2) Experience in a community college and/or higher education setting.
(D3) Holds national certification in marketing/advertising (i.e. American Marketing Association or Direct Mail Association).
