Job Description
The Dean of Student Success, Equity and Inclusion reports to the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs, and has primary responsibility for leadership, management, strategic direction, policy development, and administrative oversight for the student success, equity and inclusion division. The Dean provides critical leadership in enhancing student development and student leadership, student services, retention, student success, student life, equity, and inclusion.
The Dean works in concert with the Dean of Enrollment Services and Academic Affairs team and supports the academic mission of the College by providing a range of co-curricular services and programs to support student’s academic success, enhance student retention, student sense of belonging, and meet the diverse educational needs of students and the College community.

The Dean provides administrative leadership and oversight of a college division which currently includes but is not limited to: Equity and inclusion, Bias Incident Response Team, CARE team, social worker, counseling, student life and career development, academic support programs, Library, title IX, TRIO programs, student complaints/grievances, and student conduct.

This position is also responsible for promoting a culture that supports diversity, equity and inclusion in all forms at Hennepin Technical College.

Required Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications (expected to have to enter job):
  • Master’s degree in education, educational leadership, counseling, and student personnel, or another student affairs-related field

  • At least three (3) years of progressively responsible experience within student affairs and/or diversity, equity and inclusion at a college or university with specific focus on equity
  • Experience directing or leading multiple departments or programs
  • Experience leading equity and inclusion initiatives

  • Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, religious, gender identity, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of college students, staff, and faculty

  • Experience in the areas of leadership, planning, development, staffing, budget management, and supervision
  • Evidence of ability to deal with demanding and high stress situations, emergency situations, and multiple and varied situations and issues simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications (desired but not expected to have to enter job):
  • Doctoral degree in education, educational leadership, counseling, and student personnel, or another student affairs-related field

  • At least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience within student affairs and inclusion at a college or university with specific focus on equity
  • Demonstrated understanding of equity and inclusion and needs of community college students
  • Demonstrated understanding of strategic planning and evidence of systematic decision making
  • Knowledge and understanding of TRIO programs, FERPA laws, and student records
