Research Manager

Applicants are invited to apply for a Research Manager position as part of a ground-breaking AHRC collaborative research project, the Lex Atlas Covid 19 (LAC19), which explores the national legal responses to Covid-19 in over 50 countries. Headed by professors Jeff King (UCL) and Octavio Ferraz (KCL), the two co-principal investigators, the project has also an Editorial Committee of 14 scholars and has the following main outputs, some of which are at an advanced stage of production: the Oxford Compendium of National Legal Responses to Covid-19 (The Oxford Compendium); datasets on different relevant topics such as emergency powers, parliamentary scrutiny, etc; and an in-depth report authored by the editorial committee examining global trends and identifying best and worst practices. The report is under review for publication with Oxford University Press.

The purpose of this role is to provide managerial, editorial and research support to the two co-principal investigators of the project in its final year (till 21 July 2023). Remote working from within the UK may be considered.

The successful candidate will be based at KCL Dickson Poon School of Law and be responsible for several tasks including:

1. Managerial responsibilities: these involve liaising with the LAC19 network of scholars across the world who are authors in the Oxford Compendium as well as with Oxford University Press, allocate the editing and language editing of the Compendium’s reports among the LAC19 team of editors and language editors, organise editorial board and other meetings such as launch events, manage the LAC19 website and respond to various queries related to the LAC19 on the advice of the co-PIs and promote the LAC19 on social media.

2. Editorial responsibilities: these involve editing reports of the Oxford Compendium under the supervision of the co-PIs, as well as provide feedback to the team of language editors. The successful candidate will also be in charge of the content of the website, which includes a blog (writing/scheduling/editing blog posts under the supervision of the co-PIs).

3. Research responsibilities: these involve conducting legal research (familiarity with legal databases is required), writing memoranda for the co-PIs and, most importantly, carrying out data mining in the Oxford Compendium reports to help the co-PIs to create datasets of relevant topics such as pandemic litigation, federalism issues, suspension of elections, etc. This may also involve the production of graphs, tables, and comparative analyses. Self or co-authored writing on the topic of the project will be encouraged but is not a requirement of the post.

This post will be offered on an a fixed-term contract until 21 July 2023.
