Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System, a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board.
Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses.
Virginia Western Community College, located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the Roanoke Valley, is accepting applications for an Event and Media Specialist (Media Specialist III) in Media Services.
Provides technical support and training for the college’s electronic classrooms and audio/visual technologies. Installs, maintains and supports classroom instructional media requirements. Instructs and assists faculty and staff in the operation of this equipment. Supports Crestron and Extron control systems, including basic programming.
Works with supervisor to design and provide system integration of electronic classrooms including selection and procurement of technology. Installs equipment, develops and deploys automation/communication systems for classrooms. Repairs or coordinates repairs of audio-visual equipment, including electronic classroom components, mobile devices, video projectors, cameras, and screens.
Maintains accurate inventory of equipment and parts. Documents configuration as they change and provides operational information, inventory and usage reports for supported systems upon request. Coordinates the checkout of instructional media by faculty and staff in accordance with departmental policy.
Provides setup and support for a wide range events held on and off campus, including lighting, sound reinforcement, live video (display, recording and broadcast). Serves as primary evening and weekend support technician for classroom technologies and special events.
Creates content for campus video communication systems and Media Geek webpages. Works with VWTV Lead to create content for supported communication systems. Maintains with supervisor Media Geek webpage content in accordance with Virginia Western marketing standards.
Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
Experience in graphic design and/or video production software.
Ability to communicate effectively with people of various technical levels orally and in writing, handle multiple projects simultaneously; and make independent decisions to include troubleshooting and problem resolution as they relate to instructional media and events.
Experience in setup, teardown, operation and troubleshooting of presentation media including projectors, lighting, audio & video distribution.
Experience in a live production environment, utilizing commercial lighting, sound, and video technologies.

A Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to media production (including technical theater, Film or Television) and/or an equivalent of education, training, and/or work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist Certification. Control systems design and/or programming work experience on platforms such as Creston, Extron, and/or AMX, or similar. Audio engineering proficiency. Graphic design and/or video production skills.
