Job Description

Post Doctoral Research Associate (Narine)
Posting Number : P0887F
Job Description Summary
Currently seeking a postdoctoral fellow to advance research in the assessment of forest biomass and carbon using remote sensing technologies. Current research in our Geospatial Analytics lab focuses on remote sensing applications in natural resources and forestry across multiple spatial scales, to advance ecosystem sciences. The applicant hired to fill this position will develop methods and framework for the estimation and fine-scale mapping of forest biomass and carbon at multiple spatial scales, using light detection and ranging (lidar) data in conjunction with other earth observation data. In particular, the candidate will integrate field-based measurements with data derived from multiple remote sensing platforms using advanced modeling techniques for spatially comprehensive, accurate and detailed forest biomass and carbon stock estimations across landscapes (local, state, regional scales). This project is part of a large, interdisciplinary collaboration, with research and outreach in interrelated areas of forest carbon. The successfully candidate will be expected to effectively communicate across disciplines and maintain a strong record of scholarly publications.
Minimum Qualifications
A PhD in Forestry, Earth System Science, Environmental Engineering, Ecology, Ecosystem Science and Management, or a similar field, with a strong background in lidar remote sensing (particularly airborne lidar), machine learning and statistical modeling are required at the time employment begins.
  • Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and independently.
-Publication record
The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the term of employment.
Desired Qualifications
Experience with biomass estimation and mapping using multi-source remote sensing data
