Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Network and Communication Services, the Network Administrators are primarily responsible for the professional installation, configuration, testing, documenting, servicing, and management of network hardware infrastructure. Network administrators are instrumental in the prototyping, testing, and evaluations of proposed next generation infrastructure systems.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Performance Requirements*
  • Implements and maintains the Tarrant County College District (TCCD) network infrastructure in the central data center, the five main campuses, the disaster recovery facility, remote sites, and in the cloud
  • Proactively discover and resolve network issues using multiple remote management tools like Solarwinds, Cisco Digital Network Architecture Center (DNAC), and Paessler Router Traffic Grapher (PRTG)
  • Configures, tests, and maintains, physical and virtual load balancers, next generation firewalls, Cisco application centric infrastructure (ACI), Cisco identity service engine (ISE), Cisco DNA center (DNAC), Catalyst switches, Wi-Fi 6 Wireless Access Points (WAP) and LAN controllers, VoIP systems, Microsoft Teams Voice services, and Cisco Smart Network Analytics (SNA)
  • Collaborates with other TCCD network administrators, security personnel, application system administrators, and third-party infrastructure experts to develop, test, and implement new networking architectures and solutions
  • Develops IP subnetting solutions and configures DHCP scopes
  • Ensures proper installations using network wiring standards, electrical codes, life safety codes, building codes, and labels; maintains documentation for these areas
  • Performs field surveys of main campuses and remote sites, collaborates with the Real Estate and Facilities team to integrate operational technologies
  • Travels among all TCCD’s facilities and affiliated client organization locations as necessary

Service Excellence
  • Participates on behalf of the College in external community organizations and associations as assigned to support the essential performance requirements
  • Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
  • Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through the College and attends classes, webinars, and conferences to stay current with new networking technologies
  • Supports the values of the College: diversity, teaching excellence, student success, innovation, and creativity and service to the College
  • Supports the mission, values, and 3 goals and 8 principles (3G8P) of the College

Supervision
  • Works under the general supervision of the Director of Network and Communication Services
  • The level of independent responsibility and autonomy will vary based on each individual position

General Supervision and Management – Applies to Network Administrator IV – V
  • Provides direction and support to prior-level team members by assisting with advanced or complex technical situations and by providing guidance regarding best practices
  • Acts as a mentor by providing support to prior-level team members as they expand their knowledge and build higher-level skills

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) and three (3) years’ working experience related to the Essential Performance Requirements; or an Associates’ degree and one (1) years’ working experience related to the Essential Performance Requirements
    • Completion of TCC’s Network Support Level 1 certificate and ITCC 2041 (CCNA Security), with a 3.0 GPA or higher, will be substituted for two (2) years’ working experience related to the Essential Performance Requirements
  • Current or expired within the last 18-months Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Certification
  • Current Texas driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and reliable transportation
  • Must be able to attend, pass, and be certified to drive the college’s work vehicles within the first 90 days of being hired

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of TCC’s Network Support Level 1 certificate and ITCC 2041 (CCNA Security), with a 3.0 GPA or higher, will be substituted for two (2) years’ working experience related to the Essential Performance Requirements
  • Degree in network engineering, computer science, or related subject area
  • Experience working with TCP/IP network administration
  • Experience working with network monitoring protocols SNMP, RMON, packet capture and analysis software, DNS, and DHCP services
  • Experience configuring and maintaining QOS
  • Experience configuring, operating, and maintaining routers, switches, and Next Generation (NG) firewalls

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Cisco DNAC and Software Defined Access (SDA) concepts
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP network administration
  • Knowledge of OSHA work safety codes and regulations
  • Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal relationships with diverse populations, including strong listening, verbal, and written communication with technical and non-technical customers
  • Skilled using applications and enterprise systems, including word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
  • Ability to work with external partners towards goals and objectives attainment
  • Ability to use computer applications and enterprise systems, including proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment and a setting that is diverse and urban
  • Ability to think critically to effectively solve and communicate problems in a fast-paced environment where the demands for work are varied, and unpredictable in scope and volume
  • Ability to analyze data and provide sound recommendations based on policy, procedure, practice, and existing regulations
  • Ability to work with external partners towards goals and objectives attainment
  • Ability to delegate work appropriately with faculty and staff to meet College and campus deliverables
