The research from the faculty addresses important questions, including major societal challenges which transcend disciplinary boundaries, such as climate change and healthcare. Five research themes drive much activity across the Faculty: creativity, digital, inequalities, post-COVID society, and sustainability. By creating innovative solutions to some of the world's major challenges, the Faculty has been able to influence policy and practice across areas including the economy, health and emergency services, environmental, creative and cultural sectors. We continue to work with partners locally and globally to better understand the world around us, and to effect change in that world.

The University is now seeking an outstanding academic leader for the post of Vice-President and Dean of the Faculty of Humanities in a role that offers an exceptional opportunity for impact. As Vice-President and Dean, the appointee will not only provide leadership to a Faculty that is home to around a third of the University’s student and staff population but make a critical contribution to University strategy as a member of the Senior Leadership Team. Candidates will have an outstanding track record of academic achievement matched with a proven ability of world-class strategic and emotionally intelligent leadership as well as operational management skills. They will be an academic leader with an entrepreneurial mindset, excellent communication skills, the ability to inspire and empower teams, and to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholder groups. The ability to represent the Faculty and University at the highest levels and with a wide range of external partners will also be key.
