Position Summary

The Financial Aid Specialist is responsible for providing quality customer service to those who make contact with the Financial Aid Office – a part of the Student Services Division. It is expected that this position effectively collaborate and consult with students, faculty, staff, parents/families, and other constituents in the community. The Financial Aid Specialist must have a working knowledge and understanding of all major duties and tasks related to financial aid. This person will function as a backup for the Director of Financial Aid.

Salary: Appropriate placement on State Salary Schedule E3, Grade 5: $32,966 - $48,728

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide financial aid counseling to students and assist students and/or parents in the preparation and completion of pertinent forms in both individual and group formats (i.e. FAFSA workshops).
  • Provide support and assist students in areas of student financial aid including, but not limited to, scholarships, student loans, Pell, work-study, SEOG, WIA, TRA, and Veteran Benefits.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of all major duties related to financial aid. In the absence of the Director of Financial Aid, assist other financial aid staff and make sound decisions concerning all financial aid operations.
  • Foster a customer service environment for fellow employees, students, and visitors. Be an Ambassador for the College. Support the college’s initiative to maximize retention of current students and enable students to finish their collegiate goals.
  • Comply with all policies of the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, the ACCS Chancellor’s Office, and the College.
  • Participate in College functions (Award and Honor events, Alumni Homecoming, Commencement, etc.).
  • Assume other work related responsibilities as delegated by an appropriately assigned College administrator.

Qualifications

The Financial Aid Specialist is required to have a Bachelor degree OR an Associate degree with five years’ documented experience working in an office environment.
