Job Description:

The Recruitment Specialist professionally represents Onondaga Community College both on and off-campus to prospective students, parents, families, secondary school counselors and the community. Responsible for proactively identifying, tracking, communicating, and engaging with prospective students in accordance with the College's Strategic Plan, Division Operational Plan, and college recruitment strategy.

Plans and implements activities, programs and events designed to educate and engage key audiences. Manages an assigned territory consisting of high schools, community-based organizations and other organizations and special populations, primarily in Central New York but also located throughout the state. Works with individual prospective applicants from inquiry to application and collaborates and interfaces with other staff on campus to facilitate a smooth transition for students into the college and into credit or non-credit Workforce Development programs.

The Recruitment Specialist coordinates student visits and recruitment programs, including high school visit days, campus tours, college fairs, community events, open houses, job fairs and other opportunities designed to interact with and promote the college and its offerings to key audiences. As such, responsibilities include maintaining currency on OCC programs and services as well as best practices and trends in admission in higher education.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain contact with a caseload of prospective students to include telephone, written, and email communications such as live chat, text messaging, social media and other media as they are introduced.
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with a caseload of assigned schools, community-based organizations and other connected organizations and populations including prospective students, families, business partners and school counselors.
  • Coordinate and implement preadmission appointments, high school visit days, presentations, workshops, open houses, career days, college fairs, job fairs and other recruitment efforts; conduct tours and visits for prospective students and families.
  • Keep current on trends and best practices regarding the community college industry, community trends, workforce development initiatives and student recruitment and make recommendations as appropriate.
  • Utilize Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software to track and manage a caseload of prospective students. Update and maintain records with current information as appropriate.
  • Attend professional meetings, conferences, and professional employee development offerings as required.
  • All other appropriate duties as assigned.


Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree with at least two years of recruitment, customer service, sales and/or direct marketing experience.

This position requires:

  • The ability to travel both locally and statewide year-round and to independently load and transport admissions materials, displays and other equipment
  • Evening and weekend hours will be required
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to bring energy, encouragement and positive reinforcement to prospective students throughout their application process and beyond
  • Strong cross-cultural, interpersonal, organizational and writing skills are necessary, including public speaking skills and the ability to present the College in a positive way
  • Must be able to speak before large and small groups with confidence
  • Excellent professional judgment, emotional intelligence, and personal tact

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education, particularly a community college environment
  • Community college alumnus/alumna
  • Basic familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and database software tools
  • Experience utilizing a CRM tool

Conditions of Employment:

  • A valid driver's license
  • Ability to travel by vehicle or air, locally, statewide and/or out of state
