Job Description

Provides leadership and expertise in the area of Global Information Systems and Global Positioning Systems to oversee the use and maintenance of Hocking College’s map-making equipment and resources in accordance with Hocking College’s policies and procedures to maximize the financial benefit of the College and to maintain a safe campus environment. Responsible for providing instruction and revitalization of the GPS/GIS Certificate Program
Duties and Responsibilities
  • PROVIDE GPS/GIS INSTRUCTION AND LEADERSHIP: Provide expertise aiding in GPS/GIS with associated equipment care and management for all campus-owned properties. Provide instruction for GEO-1125 Map Making and GEO-1104 Introduction to GIS & GPS courses. Supervise employees and student employees to manage as needed. Assists with projects that enhance the educational outreach of the college including workshops, demonstrations and leisure learning activities on maps, drones, GPS, etc. Collaborate with the Natural Resources team to work drone-based exercises and courses.
  • Revive the GPS/GIS Certificate Program with a focus on industry relevance and to include operation and application of Drone applications. Ensure that coursework is preparing students to successfully pass the GISP exam, ArcGIS proficiency certifications, and/or sUAS piloting examination.
  • Provides input on course outcomes and curriculum with emphasis on practical and employable skill building for students. Convey course outcomes and expectations to students according to college policy; organize and manage instructional activities; use appropriate learner-centered instructional methods; provide evaluation methods appropriate to stated outcomes; evaluate student learning in a fair manner; maintain accurate records of evaluation and course work including attendance; submit grades as required and on time; regularly seek feedback on course delivery and student learning; participate in college evaluation system of instructional services; revise / update courses regularly.
  • Works with the Program to coordinate with IT on computer and software needs. Maintains the fleet of GPS units, including hardware and software. Maintains drone(s), including all hardware and software needed for effective operation.
  • Supports efforts of Hocking College map-making with focus on the following areas:
    • Recreational trails: Hiking, Horse, Biking, ATV’s, Emergency response
    • Frisbee Golf course
    • Campus Map
    • Maps for large kiosk signs
    • Special events on campus
    • Land Management Plan
    • Environmental remediation projects
  • ENGAGES IN CONTINUOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Formulate and implement goals for growth; identify own professional development needs consistent with the mission of the College and department; maintain or attain appropriate certification; licensure, or credentialing; seek appropriate resources to meet goals for continuous improvement.
  • PARTICIPATES IN DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES: Work cooperatively with others to accomplish the goals of the department; share expertise and materials with other department members; contribute to the efforts of other college enterprises and activities where skills are appropriate; work constructively to resolve individual and department concerns; actively participate in technology and department activities and meetings; follow departmental policies.
  • At all times maintains a safe working area and conditions.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.
Qualifications – Education, Experience, and Skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Degree must be from a regionally or nationally accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent as verified by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc.
  • Evidence of professional development in the field of concentration as demonstrated by activity in professional associations, consultative practice; participation in seminars, workshops, and formal coursework, and individual reading and research.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Strong technology skills including usage of email, student information system, and learning management system
  • Organizational, record-keeping, and interpersonal skills.
