Job Description

Postdoc or staff scientist in vascular neurobiology

Full Job Description

Yongsoo Kim lab at Penn State University College of Medicine is looking for a highly motivated postdoc who is willing to embrace new approaches for important questions in neuroscience.

She/he is expected to work on a NIH funded project that will examine highly detailed 3D organization of cerebrovasculature in the mouse brain and its changes upon normal aging and/or neurodegenerative conditions (e.g., Alzheimer’s model). We are looking for someone who has research experience in vascular biology and its connection to neuronal health. Expertise on mathematical and computational analysis is desired, but not required.

In general, the Kim lab has multiple NIH funded projects to establish cellular cell type architecture maps of mammalian brains using mice as an animal model. Three main lines of research include
1) the brain-wide mapping of brain cell types including GABAergic neurons, glia, and cerebrovascular network,
2) anatomical and functional investigation of the oxytocin system in the context of social behavior and neurodevelopment, and
3) creating 3D atlases for developing mouse brains.
We utilize high resolution 3D imaging tools (e.g., light sheet fluorescent microscopy) and computational approaches to examine cellular resolution details in the whole mouse brain. Moreover, we use systems neuroscience approaches (e.g., miniscope neural recording) to examine circuit specific function in the brain. More details of the lab including publications can be found in the lab web site.

We aim to build a strong research team with complimentary expertise. Furthermore, we have several on-going collaborations with labs across the world that bring different expertise, which provide ample opportunities to work with leading experts in different field of neuroscience.

Penn State College of Medicine Campus is located in Hershey, PA that is a relatively small town with affordable living expense with easy access to neighboring major cities (e.g., Philadelphia).

Eligible candidates should email a CV including publications and the names of 3 professional references, and a brief statement of research with career plan to the PI. Highly qualified candidates with significant research experience can be hired at a staff scientist level.

Preferred qualifications:
  • PhD or equivalent degree in neuroscience or related discipline
