Full Job Description

The ODU Research Foundation invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position to perform work under the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at ODU. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work in a NASA-funded interdisciplinary project that seeks to integrate earth observations, flood sensor network, and hydrodynamic modeling to understand climate change and sea level rise impacts on public health. The postdoc will assist with development and calibration of a high-fidelity hydrodynamic model for compound storm tide and rainfall-driven flooding, model integration with tide gauges and overland water level sensors and earth observations, model application for future flooding under probabilistic climate change and sea level rise scenarios, process and visualize model output, and submit journal articles.


Job Responsibilities: Duties:

  • development and calibration of a high-fidelity hydrodynamic model for compound storm tide and rainfall-driven flooding
  • model integration with tide gauges and overland water level sensors and earth observations
  • model application for future flooding under probabilistic climate change and sea level rise scenarios
  • process and visualize model output
  • prepare and submit peer-reviewed journal articles
  • Other duties as assigned

required minimum qualifications
Education and/or training: Ph.D. in coastal, civil, or ocean engineering, physical oceanography, or a closely related field
Level and type of experience: None outside of PHD
Specific knowledge, skills, and abilities?: Experience with Delft3D-FM or other hydrodynamic models, Matlab or Python
