Position Summary

The Director will lead face-to-face solicitation for a portfolio with a gift range of $75,000 to $100,000 and partner with Fordham’s Executive Director of Gift Planning to cultivate and solicit principal gifts prospects and donors. S/he will assist major gift officers needing gift planning expertise to close major gifts and collaborate with Gift Planning colleagues to provide regular estate plan training to leadership annual fund and major gift officers. The ideal candidate will achieve the Office of Development and University Relations (DAUR)’s ambitious expectations for this role, which include annual goals for face-to-face solicitation and outright of planned giving proposals above $100,000.

The Director will report to the Executive Director of Gift Planning. The candidate will develop strong relationships with faculty, administrators, and staff in order to identify and recommend fundraising opportunities to donors that support the University’s programs and priorities through major outright and deferred gifts.

Essential Functions

  • Advances and supports the University’s Jesuit mission and identity.
  • Establishes and manages a portfolio of 100 to 150 major and planned giving donors and prospects, including the creation and implementation of strategies for identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Leads discovery work and partners with colleagues across the University to identify and qualify new planned, major, and blended gifts prospects.
  • Secures bequest intentions, planned gifts, major gifts, blended gifts, and leadership annual gifts with a gift range of $75,000 to $100,000, partnering with Fordham’s Executive Director of Gift Planning on gifts of $100,000 and above.
  • Develops strong relationships with faculty, administrators, and staff in order to identify and recommend fundraising opportunities to donors that support the University’s programs and priorities through major outright and deferred gifts.
  • Collaborates with Gift Planning colleagues to provide estate plan training to leadership annual fund and major gift officers on a regular basis.
  • Assists in the planning and execution of planned giving society events.
  • Assists major gift officers needing gift planning expertise to close major gifts.
  • Achieves DAUR’s ambitious expectations for this role, which include annual goals for annual solicitations and outright or planned giving proposals above $100,000.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, business or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in development and/or planned giving fundraising.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of planned giving vehicles (e.g., trusts, annuities, and real estate gifts), gifts of securities and other non-cash assets, charitable tax benefits, and associated legal and tax requirements.
  • Has a proven track record of securing five- and six-figure major and planned gifts.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve fundraising goals while working with prospects in all phases of development: qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Strong verbal and writing skills, high attention to detail and follow-up, and excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Proven ability to manage confidential information with distinction and tact.
  • Ability to work collegially and collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Demonstrated track record of exceptional work and a high level of personal initiative.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to new programs in an emerging and changing environment.
  • Willingness and ability to quickly learn the University’s internal processes and technological tools, including Ellucian CRM Advance, PG Calc, MS Office Applications, and reporting tools such as PowerBI and Webfocus.
  • Emotionally intelligent and ethical professional with the stature, integrity, and experience to effectively engage and support DAUR colleagues.
  • Shared values with Fordham and its Jesuit and Catholic identity.
  • Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with comprehensive campaigns and training gift officers in gift planning.
