*JOB SUMMARY*
Collaborates with teachers, parents and school personnel to improve classroom management strategies or parenting skills, to counter substance abuse, or to work with students with learning disabilities. This is a part-time/ as needed role.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Endeavors to improve teaching and learning strategies.
  • Evaluates needs of average, gifted, disabled, and emotional disturbed youth, and plans and carries and out programs to enable youth to attain maximum achievement and adjustment: Conducts diagnostic studies to identify youth’s needs, limitations, and potentials, observing youth in the classroom and at plan, studying school records, consulting with parents and school personnel, and administering and interpreting diagnostic findings.
  • Plans special placement or other treatment programs, counsel’s pupils individually and in groups, using psychodrama, play therapy, personal interviews and other psychological methods to assist pupils to achieve personal, social and emotional adjustment.
  • Evaluates needs of average, gifted, disabled and disturbed youth within The School at Shodair and carries out programs to enable youth to attain maximum achievement and adjustment.
  • Advises teachers and other school personnel on methods to enhance school and classroom atmosphere to provide motivating educational environment.
  • Serves as consultant to the medical staff, treatment team members, school personnel and others as assigned.
  • Provides quality psychological services in a range of treatment settings.
  • Provides psychological evaluations and consultation to treatment teams including recommendations for diagnosis, treatment and service delivery placement.
  • Participates in assuring that the quality of patient care remains high through participation in staff meetings and feedback sessions with families and treatment teams.
  • Provides input for community outreach and marketing.
  • Provides information and participates in peer review process.
  • Provides services within framework of hospital quality assurance program.
  • Provides education for staff, patients and community on a variety of topics.

  • Must have demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion and to deal effectively with persons under stress.
  • Completion of required annual training.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in School Psychology. Must be licensed and maintain license in the state of Montana. Clinical experience with psychological evaluation and treatment of youth following post-graduate training is a plus. Must be proficient in administration and interpretation of a wide variety of psychological and neuropsychological tests including, cognitive, emotion, personality and behavior ratings. Must be knowledgeable regarding child development and experienced in behavior treatment programming for seriously emotionally disturbed youth in inpatient and residential treatment programs. Position requires Criminal Records Background Check.
