Job Summary

The SUCCESS Mentoring Program is part of YES’s Community Based Services & Inclusion programming. SUCCESS Mentoring works to help struggling youth (ages 6-18) thrive socially and academically by pairing them with volunteer adult mentors who provide support. The program fosters long-term relationships between mentors and mentees to help participants overcome personal and family problems, stay in school, increase their academic achievement and motivation, improve their decision-making skills and increase their sense of self-worth.

The Program Coordinator oversees the development and implementation of the youth mentoring program. The Program Coordinator ensures program quality and performance related to recruiting, screening, matching, monitoring, and closing the relationship with the mentor and youth and communicates with the mentor, parent/guardian, and child throughout the relationship.

Reporting to the Director of Community Services & Inclusion, the Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the mentoring program and will carry out the responsibilities of the position as defined below:

Primary Job Functions

  • Create and oversee implementation of an ongoing mentor recruitment plan, including the development of annual recruitment strategies (outreach), development and distribution of program marketing materials, presentations to targeted organizations, and ensuring a presence at key community events, etc.
  • Perform and oversee participant screening, training, matching, support and supervision, recognition, and closure activities
  • Develop and manage relationships with schools, community-based organizations, and other community partners
  • Manage the planning and implementation of mentor/mentee group monthly events (e.g., bowling trips, pizza parties, end-of-year events)
  • Plan and facilitate the annual Mentor Appreciation celebration (usually held in January of each year in celebration of the National Mentoring month.)

§ Provide Progressive Case Management services regularly to Mentor/Mentee matches, including assisting with community resources to their families and community education for Mentors, mentees, and Families.

  • Maintain and update the program’s policy and procedure manual as needed
  • Oversee program evaluation activities for improvement

§ Work in collaboration with YES therapist and community referral sources to gather additional Mentee information

  • Attend regional/national conferences to increase knowledge of the mentoring program and best practices

§ Follow agency’s standards with daily statistical entries and reports, overview, and pre/post outcome data collection; including annually gathering/updating release forms, interviewing Mentees 1:1, and outreach to Mentees’ schools for grade reports

  • Provide quarterly Mentor Training and regular support necessary
  • Meeting Program Metrics/Scope of Work and quarterly report

§ Participating in annual YES Diversity training, department meetings monthly, and regular supervision

  • Complete other duties and activities as needed

Knowledge & Skills

  • Ability to work effectively in cross-culturalsituations
  • Strong ability to work with a diverse Eastside community, including race, ethnicity, gender, LGBTQ+, religious and socioeconomic status
  • Experience working with vulnerable children, youth, and families

  • Aptitude to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize workload, complete assigned tasks, and maintain poise under pressure

  • Computer literate and able to use Electronic Health Records (EMR), telehealth, and other software programs with basic training

Qualifications:

§ Bachelor’s degree preferred with emphasis in social work, psychology, volunteer management, and/or education

§ Two or more years’ experience in mentoring and youth development, working within community organizations and/or schools preferred

§ Have expert knowledge of mentoring program policies and procedures

§ Extremely strong organizational, writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills

§ Creativity and flexibility are essential in assuming significant responsibility

§ Experience working in racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse urban communities preferred

Physical / Working Requirements:

§ Work in general office conditions

§ Frequent sitting, standing, and walking

§ Ability to use hands and handle objects

§ Adequate vision and hearing are necessary for duties

§ Occasional pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds

§ Speaking/talking on the telephone and in-person

§ Ability to travel and work in multiple settings

§ Ability to work evening hours and adjust work schedule as necessary to meet business needs

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.64 - $29.02 per hour
