Adult Education ABE Instructor

Job Description

Georgia Northwestern Technical College is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Adult Basic Education (ABE) Instructor to be located at the Whitfield Murray Campus. The position may require travel to other campuses to meet operational requirements. The person in this position will teach all content areas of language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Other responsibilities include evaluating and recording student progress in attaining goals and helping students transition to college and/or a career. The successful candidate will develop lesson plans based on the College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) and deliver instruction in Adult Basic Education (ABE) and preparation for the high school equivalency credential. He or she will maintain a secure classroom environment, participate in professional development activities, and prepare required documentation and reports.

Required Qualifications: This position requires a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university, prior teaching and classroom management experience in an educational or training setting, excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills along with excellent computer skills and the ability to integrate technology into the daily lesson.

Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have a Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university, and experience teaching basic academic skills to adult learners in an open-entry, multi-level classroom. Teaching certification is a plus.

Starting Salary: $20.00 per hour. This position is 19 hours per week to include 16 instructional hours plus 3 hours of planning time. The work schedule will be Monday -Thursday 8:30 am – 12:30 pm with three additional hours scheduled for planning. Position and hours based on funding and enrollment.
